A truly special Dumfries and Galloway cottage, this gorgeous stone lodge makes an idyllic base for exploring magnificent South West Scotland. Sleeping seven guests, the four-bedroom hideaway nestles in picturesque countryside, 2.5 miles from Borgue and 5.5 miles from the colourful fishing port of Kirkcudbright. Known for its many festivals and its plethora of creative individuals and craftspeople, vibrant Kirkcudbright has been dubbed ‘the artists’ town’. Amble round the independent shops and galleries here, dine out in welcoming pubs and restaurants, and watch the boats drift up and down the River Dee. Step straight out from the lodge to embark on exciting coastal and country walks, with access to a small bay on the farm reached in just a 20-minute walk. Beautiful Brighouse Bay is 1.5 miles away, while Dhoon Beach is a 2.5-mile hike. Plan day trips to the National Trust for Scotland’s attractive Threave Garden and Nature Reserve and the fascinating Red Kite Centre at Laurieston, both of which are 15 miles away. Set on a working farm, the cottage offers a truly authentic rural experience, where you can spot Highland cattle and Belted Galloways grazing in the surrounding fields. Guests can also join the farm tours available to learn more about life on the farm and its wonderful animals.

Take a moment to appreciate the tranquillity of the setting before entering the single-storey cottage via the porch. Pull off your wellies or walking boots and step through to the hallway. To your left is a handy utility room, where you can pop damp clothing straight into the washing machine or wash your hands in the double sinks. There is also a WC. Make your way down the hall to emerge in the fabulous open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its vaulted ceiling and picture windows that frame the verdant views. Gather in here to socialise or watch the Smart TV from the comfort of the sofa. Open the French doors to the garden on fine sunny days. Cater for yourselves with ease in the modern kitchen, with its central island and ample food preparation and storage space. Congregate at the table for lively holiday meals. Adjoining this room is a second lounge, with exposed stonework, another Smart TV and the baby grand piano. There are also French doors, again for those summer stays. When night falls over rural Dumfries and Galloway, head back down the hall to your bedrooms. These include two super-king-sizes (with zip-and-link beds that can be made into twins on request), a twin (with zip-and-link beds that can be made into a super-king-size), and a single. One of the super-king-sizes has an en-suite bathroom with Jack and Jill access to the hall, the other super-king-size and the twin each have an en-suite shower room.

Spend time out in the garden as often as the weather permits. Dine outside on occasion and sip a wee dram of whisky as the sun sets over your surroundings. There is private parking here for four cars.

The accommodation was extremely good, very comfortable in every aspect. It was like home from home! Situated away from the main of roads, this cottage was extremely restful with fabulous views and walks from the door.
