Located right on the seafront of Bonchurch, overlooking the pedestrian only promenade which offers a wonderful coastal walk to vibrant Ventnor. It has been renovated to a very high standard to provide beautiful accommodation for 6-7 people and is all on one level from the driveway throughout the property. It has been furnished and equipped with great sensitivity and a wonderful use of light and colour. The village centre is a short walk away where you’ll find a large pond with plenty of wildlife, an 11th-century church, beautiful stone buildings and sub-tropical plants. Bonchurch has a peaceful air which is perhaps why it was popular with writers and poets in Victorian times. Explore along the promenade, which leads you through Wheelers Bay to the small seaside resort of Ventnor with plentiful beach, cafés, restaurants and various small shops. The coastal path eastwards from Bonchurch provides a delightful walk through the rural hamlet of Luccombe to the larger seaside resort of Shanklin – a great route for a walking day trip.

Entering the cottage, you’ll find an open-plan living area with superb sea views through its floor-to-ceiling windows, and patio doors that open out onto the garden. This room has large comfortable sofas and a wall mounted Smart TV/DVD. The dining area with circular table provides a relaxing place to enjoy meals, whilst you can continue to marvel at the magnificent sea just beyond. The pristine open plan kitchen has a range style cooker with a gas hob including a wok facility and a large electric oven, a mini-oven, a microwave, American fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a central island with breakfast bar. A coffee machine, air fryer and kitchen aid food mixer are available on request. The fully tiled bathroom has a shower over the bath and a WC. There is also a separate fully tiled shower room with WC. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also provided. The first charming bedroom is a superb double with a super-king-size bed and lovely sea views with French doors opening on to the terrace featuring table and chairs. The second, a lovely double bedroom also with a super-king-size bed and a French door, offers glimpses of the sea – this door gives direct access to the terrace and garden. The third is a lovely twin bedroom. There is plentiful wardrobe space and a French-style single daybed in the living area which can be used to accommodate an extra guest for an additional cost.

Outside, the cottage has a private walled and fenced garden with stunning sea views. Garden furniture including BBQ and padded, reclining sun loungers are provided so that meals can be enjoyed alfresco. Steps lead down from the garden, allowing access to the promenade. Two cars can be parked in the driveway and from here there is a private secure entrance, which can be used to store bikes/prams/mobility scooter. Guests can access the beach by walking down the lane from the drive.

The house is located in a secluded area in a village on the outskirts of the main town, this means it is very quite, but if you wanted to walk to the town its relatively simple to use the coastal route and would take around 30 mins. We had two medium sized cars, which fitted into the spaces. The parking is gravelled, which was a bit difficult forRead more a disabled person we had with us so we had to park as close to the door and then move the car to the parking space. Inside is all on one level, the only steps are to get to the outside space and to get into the only standalone shower (the other is inside a bath), which was an issue for our disabled person. The house is very clean and comfortable, there were two daybeds, a sofa and arm chair to relax in and look at the view. The three bedrooms were all light and airy. The beds were well presented though they were very hard. The towels provided were lovely and soft and the toiletries were very nice. The kitchen was well equipped, though all the cupboard space had been taken up with stuff so left little space for anything we had brought with us. The outside space was a mixture of decking (accessible from two of the bedrooms too), shingle and plastic grass. It was secure, so we could let our small dog roam free, though larger dogs might need supervising as the wall facing the sea isnt very high. There are some wooden steps from the outside space, or the road to the front of the house to give access to the promenade area below. There is no beach area here, the sea comes up to the sea wall, the nearest beach would be in Ventnor (I think) The checking out process was really easy, we just left the keys in the door. Though I think expecting people to strip beds and pick up the floor mats was a bit cheeky seeing how much we had paid to stay here. Overall this was a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend to a friend, just with a few minor caveats mentioned above. Youre away from most of the tourist hotspots but can easily commute to them if you want a day out, so if you want a comfortable and peaceful retreat with a view of the sea, this is probably suitable. 5 star all across the board. It was a total WOW from all of us, kids included, when we walked in. The finishing touches, wine, cup cakes etc, lovely, such level of detail. Very versatile accommodation with the sofa beds. Great secure garden for the dogs too. Fully recommend it.
