Bowfell is a delightful Lakeland stone cottage in the heart of the vibrant town of Ambleside. A cosy retreat sleeping six guests, the cottage provides stylish, light and airy open plan living, combined with original character including local slate flooring and a beautiful traditional slate mantle over a centre-piece wood burner in the lounge. On a quiet backstreet, within a minute’s stroll of central Ambleside, Bowfell gives easy access to all the delights of this tourist hot spot with its many shops, bustling pubs, cafes, and a wide variety of restaurants, as well as a local cinema. A local climbing wall, mountain bike rental and water sports activity centres can be found nearby too (within 0.5 miles), inviting you to stay active throughout your visit, while the abundance of waymarked pathways and national walking trails promise endless adventures for outdoor enthusiasts. Make your way down to Lake Windermere (1 mile), stopping to spot the ancient Roman fort ruins on its banks, before embarking on a nature walk or a scenic lake steamer ride. Through Bowfell’s front door you enter a light and welcoming lounge. Comfortable leather sofas allow for easy relaxation by the wood-burning fire after a day’s walking on the fells, while the open-plan feel makes a great space for friends and family to relax together. A well-equipped kitchen/dining area opens out from the lounge, bringing cooking and socialising together as natural companions. By the back door, a useful utility room includes a good-sized coat rack/ boot drying area along with washing machine, tumble dryer and adjacent Wetroom, providing easy wash off, dry out & storage for kit and equipment ready for the next day’s adventures. Another great week at Bowfell! We have stayed in a lot of Ambleside cottages and this has become one of our favourites. It is located very centrally but in a very quiet road seconds from the shops and cafes. It is easy to stop off outside to unload before using the car park permit in the car park round the corner by the library. A very comfortable Read moreand well equipped cottage with everything you need for your stay. I would not hesitate to book again and have always found Lakeland Retreats excellent with great customer service. Thank you for another wonderful holiday! Hide

This is an extremely comfortable cottage, really well presented and with excellent facilities. With 2 bathrooms, very comfortable beds and a great downstairs space we found it perfect for all our needs. The kitchen was very well equipped and the cleanliness of the cottage was first class, as we have found is the case with all Lakeland Retreat CottaRead moreges. . The location was so central to Ambleside yet in a very quiet road with little traffic. The shops and cafes are just seconds from the door. We were able to pull up outside to unload with no issue. We used the nearby parking near the library with the permit. We loved staying here and would definitely return again. Highly recommend this cottage. Hide
