Hedge-lined lanes wind through a landscape of farmland to this idyllic Dorset hideaway. Less than 1.5 miles away, the pretty village of Thorncombe borders both Devon and Somerset, making this an ideal spot for those wishing to explore the three counties. Food-lovers mustn’t miss a trip to Beaminster and Lyme – both feature fantastic independent eateries, dog friendly pubs, and shops selling local produce and are within 9 miles. If coastal adventures are more to your taste, Charmouth is a fossil-hunting favourite and gives access to the South West Coast Path – walk eastwards to Golden Cap, the highest point on this dramatic coastline. Alternatively, head west along the Jurassic Coast and Lyme Regis (only 8 miles from your holiday home) is famous for its historic harbour and iconic Cobb breakwater.

Adjacent to the owner’s home but with privacy assured, this welcoming hideaway with stunning views and no light pollution has been converted from a former stone outbuilding to become a beautiful one-bedroom abode, entirely powered by renewable energy and with underfloor heating for all-year comfort. Park in the oak-framed carport, then follow the steps to your front door. Inside, an open-plan social space sets the scene for a chilled-out couple’s time, with a contemporary kitchen area to one end housing all the essentials for hassle-free self-catering. Rustle up a meal for two to be served at the adjacent dining suite, which sits beside sliding doors onto the balcony and garden beyond. Once the dishwasher is loaded, relocate to the lounge area where comfortable sofas are arranged before the Smart TV. When you’re ready to retire for the night, a charming king-size bedroom has lovely views and is conveniently close to the chic shower room.

Step through the sliding doors from your main living space, and there’s a glass-fronted balcony with bistro-style furniture. Steps at one end lead down to a lawned and gravelled garden, fully enclosed with a fire pit, rustic picket-style fencing and thoughtful planting, plus views across the owner’s ground to the surrounding countryside.

A beautiful hidden gem of a lodge with a super outside space for humans and four legged friends. The perfect retreat if you want to escape from it all. Nikki was a great host, nothing was too much trouble and the scones and fresh eggs were a kind and generous touch.
