Located in a dream spot in the foothills of Cader Idris, this detached stone cottage in Snowdonia provides a dreamy escape spot for up to four guests. It’s surrounded by dramatic landscapes and open skies, making it an ideal base for families or groups of friends keen to slow the pace and reconnect with nature. Despite its remote location, you won’t be far from Dolgellau (4 miles), a vibrant market town with independent shops, cafes and eateries, as well as cycle hire for exploring the Mawddach Trail. Experienced walkers will be keen to tackle Cader Idris itself, accessible via three separate routes. For a change of scenery, Fairbourne Beach (5 miles) has long stretches of sand and the option of hopping on the water taxi across to Barmouth (8 miles). Alternatively, the road route to Barmouth traces the Mawddach Estuary, revealing sweeping views before arriving at a lively harbour town.

After a scenic arrival via gravelled track, step inside to a warm and characterful home, where exposed beams, stone walls and a striking inglenook fireplace make you feel welcome and cosy. A practical boot room provides space for coats and muddy walking gear and leads to a handy separate WC. From here, a step down takes you into the spacious kitchen, where you can relax and socialise with fellow guests, with a breakfast table, comfortable seating, a Smart TV and a wood burner for cosy evenings. The adjoining panelled lounge offers another space to unwind, with deep sofas, a dining table for shared meals and a second wood burner. Upstairs, you’ll find three thoughtfully designed bedrooms – two king-size rooms (one of which has an en-suite WC) and a charming twin. Completing the floor is a stylish bathroom featuring a freestanding bath and rainfall shower.

Outside, you can soak up the Welsh mountain air in the fenced garden, complete with outdoor furniture, a fire pit and charcoal BBQ. It’s ideal for al fresco dining, sunset views and stargazing in this Dark Sky Reserve. Parking is generous here, with space for up to five cars, though please note that the final section of the track may be inaccessible when it’s been snowing.
