We really enjoyed our stay here and would happily recommend it. The highlight for us was definitely the views - they were absolutely gorgeous, particularly when the weather was clear. The balcony was a real bonus too, and we loved sitting out there in the sunshine. It gets sun for much of the day, making it a lovely spot to relax, and also make it Read morea great place for stargazing on a clear night. The house itself is a really good size. We hadnt realised before arriving that it was an upside-down house, with the kitchen and living area upstairs and the bedrooms downstairs, but it actually works really well because it means you get the best of the views from the main living space. The living area was comfortable, the bedrooms were a decent size, and the bed was really comfortable. The kitchen was also very well equipped and had pretty much everything we needed. The sauna was another major highlight and one of the reasons we booked the property in the first place. It definitely got plenty of use and was a lovely feature to have during our stay. There are a few areas that could perhaps use a little TLC. Although some parts of the property, such as the main bathroom, have been modernised, other areas felt like they were perhaps looking a little tired and could benefit from some updating. The Wi-Fi was also a bit of an issue. It kept cutting out and very rarely worked reliably, and we had similar problems with the internet connection through the TV/Fire Stick. It didnt have a huge impact on our stay as we were out exploring a lot of the time, but it was frustrating when we needed the internet to research places to visit or wanted to watch something in the evening. We also found that the heating downstairs, including in the bedroom areas and bathroom, didnt seem to come on, while the upstairs heating worked fine. Other reviewers have mentioned the number of steps down from the parking area to the house. This didnt bother us personally, but its something to bear in mind if you have mobility difficulties, and they could potentially become slippery in winter weather. One thing we really loved was the lovely garden, with a stile at the bottom giving access to a walking route into Rothbury. Rothbury itself is a lovely town with plenty of cafs, restaurants, fish and chip shops, shops and other amenities, so the property makes a great base for exploring Northumberland. There are also lots of beautiful places to visit within easy reach. Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay. The views, balcony, sauna, comfortable accommodation and excellent location were definite highlights, and wed happily recommend the property. With a little updating and some attention to the Wi-Fi and heating, it could be even better. Hide

Lovely views from upstairs living/dining room. The 29 steps down to the property from the road were a bit of a challenge but we managed OK. Only half an hour to Alnwick which is well worth a visit, and an hour to Lindisfarne Priory, with beautiful castles and coastline in between.

A wonderful property. It was clean, comfortable and homely. The views were amazing from all the windows and it was lovely sitting on the balcony relaxing in the sun. There is plenty of actitivies to do from the property and lots of walks. The sauna was the best in-house sauna we have had, it was just like a real sauna, not an infrared one. TherRead moree were 29 steps down to the house but they were easy steps with one or two pause with a good handrail. We would go again. Hide

Enjoyable week at Simonside View and what a view! Lovely to come back after a day out and just look! Well equipped and furnished. Good selection of amenities in the village. Do be prepared for a steep climb when walking back to the house! Plenty of places to visit close by. We enjoyed Cragside and Wallington Hall, National Trust visits.
