Full of awe-inspiring history, this magnificent, detached house is seriously comfortable, cleverly combining period features with luxurious contemporary amenities. A perfect choice for friends or families, it’s located in the village of Powerstock in West Dorset, with easy access to the area’s lively towns, glorious country walks and beautiful beaches. The village has two friendly pubs, one right opposite the house and the other within 500 metres. In Bridport, 3.5 miles away, you’ll find a vibrant Saturday market and a choice of independent shops and great places to eat. The two beaches at West Bay, 6 miles away, are backed by Jurassic Coast cliffs – made famous by the TV show Broadchurch. The fossil-hunters' haunt of Charmouth is 12.5 miles away, and you can reach Lyme Regis, with its iconic Cobb harbour, south-facing beaches and winding streets full of delightful independent shops, in just under 16 miles.

As you open the door to this impressive property, you’ll immediately sense its history and feel the welcome of its home-from-home styling, with soft rugs, works of art and books, combined with Delft-style accents throughout. Follow the hallway to the ground floor king-size bedroom, with a lovely ornamental fireplace, a Smart TV, armchairs, and a desk for anyone who needs to catch up with some admin. There’s one step up to the spacious, galley-style kitchen, which includes handsome cabinets, high-quality appliances and everything the chef of the holiday will need to create delicious, hearty meals. A breakfast area at one end provides space for drinks and snacks, and the room loops round to a useful scullery, with plenty of room for storage. For celebratory gatherings, the dining hall is an extraordinary space with an open, inglenook fireplace, original beams and a long wooden table. When you’ve eaten your fill, head to the charming lounge, a large, bright room with plenty of comfortable seating. In summer, you can open the French doors to the garden and enjoy the fresh air, or in winter, light the open fire and get cosy as you enjoy a book or a game. Three welcoming, king-size bedrooms are on the first floor, all with en-suites. One bedroom has a zip-and-link bed for flexibility and features an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. The others have en-suite shower rooms, and one also boasts a Smart TV, ideal for lazy mornings.

The enclosed garden is just as delightful as the interior of the house, and includes a patio, outdoor furniture and a large lawn, reached by four stone steps. Surrounded by established flower beds, shrubs and trees, this is a beautiful spot for al fresco drinks and dining while children and pets play – though do supervise them carefully as there is also an unenclosed pond in the garden. As for parking, you’ll have two roadside parking spaces adjacent to the property, with further roadside parking approximately 50 metres away (subject to availability).

Absolutely beautiful property, amazingly interesting, spacious and comfortable, the garden is gorgeous. We had a thoroughly relaxing and happy time in Knapp House and will return when we can. Bonus is the pub dead opposite, Martin and Agi are perfect hosts and the food is fantastic.
