Set in the peaceful village of Stoney Middleton, this charming cottage offers an excellent base for exploring some of the Peak District’s most striking landscapes. For climbing enthusiasts, the village boasts an impressive crag with a range of climbs to try. Or for a taste of history, visit the Grade II listed St Martin's Church, dating back to the 15th century. Eyam, known for its remarkable plague history, is 2 miles away and full of interest, while Curbar Edge, 3.5 miles from the door, provides unforgettable views. Padley Gorge, 4 miles away, offers shaded woodland walks and picnic spots, and Bakewell, at 5 miles, is ideal for riverside strolls, shops and its famous puddings. The surrounding area is rich in stately homes, including Chatsworth House just 7 miles and Haddon Hall 8 miles away. From gentle village walks to hilltop viewpoints and scenic driving routes, this location suits a wide range of interests and is perfect for days spent exploring.

Inside, the cottage unfolds across three welcoming floors. On the lower-ground level, the kitchen and dining space feels like the heart of the home, perfect for morning coffees as plans for the day take shape or relaxed meals shared around the table. Bar seating by the window catches the light and makes a lovely perch for quiet moments. This level opens straight from the parking area at the rear of the property, creating an easy arrival. The first-floor lounge is a cosy retreat, with exposed stonework and an electric flame-effect stove that casts a gentle evening glow. Stretch out on the comfortable seating to enjoy the fifty-inch TV, settle into a book or bring out a board game after time exploring the Peaks. A modern shower room is also found on this floor. At the top of the cottage, two calm bedrooms rest under the eaves, one offering twin zip-and-link beds for flexible sleeping (2' 6" singles can be made up as king-size on request), and the other is as a king-size. Both are designed for comfort, with thoughtful storage for longer stays. A bathroom with a shower over the bath completes this floor.

Outside, an astro-turfed seating area offers a peaceful place to pause in the fresh air, with the soft murmur of the nearby brook adding a gentle sense of calm. Parking for one car is available.

Well appointed and clean. Very warm and plenty of hot water. Not an ideal place for a dog as no outside space, and we had to take her on a lead out on to the main road to find a grass verge just before bed every night. Be aware the main road is BUSY and noisy. If you dont need to sleep with windows open then it is manageable. Very steep drive whiRead morech is quite tricky to turn out off at the busiest times of day. It is very convenient for access to all main walking areas in the peaks and for Sheffield. Interesting history. Hide

We had a fabulous time staying at babbling Brook cottage in Stoney Middleton. The cottage was spotlessly Clean, lovely and warm and very well equipped. Stoney Middleton was a perfect location for us with access to an abundance of fabulous walks from nearby villages.

On the whole a lovely cottage. Decorated and furnished well, with the exception of the beds. Mattresses desperately need replacing. Once that is done, then there would be no further problems with this cottage. The cottage is ideally placed for walking in the Peaks, with plenty of walks close by, and not too far to drive to others. It is on a main rRead moreoad, which is VERY, VERY busy. While there is nothing the owners can do about this, just be aware that, if, like us you like to sleep with the bedroom window open, it is nigh on impossible because of the noise, especially from the wagons that come through. Also, you will need to take your own cleaning equipment. We had 1 cloth, the tiniest amount of washing up liquid, 2 dishwasher tablets and 1 bin liner. Most holiday homes provide more. If you're aware this one doesn't, then you can come prepared. One last thing. If you book for Christmas and want it decorated, there are minimal decorations, and you will need to buy your own lights for the tree. Again, if we'd been aware, we would have come prepared. I would recommend this property if I knew the mattresses had been replaced. Reply from Holiday Cottages: Thank you for your feedback. The owners apologise for the lack of cleaning materials, which was an oversight. This is an established property and the new owners appreciate your comments as they make improvements to ensure a better experience for future guests. Hide
