Property code: OC-F34153

Surrounded on three sides by the national park, Buxton makes a fabulous base whether you’re seeking a Peak District adventure, a laid-back break or a combination of both. Gorgeous ornamental gardens plus elegant Georgian and Victorian architecture provide an impressive backdrop to an eclectic calendar of events in this vibrant market town. Must-see sites include the historic Crescent, Thermal Spa, Opera House and Devonshire Dome, while natural attractions like Poole's Cavern and the surrounding Buxton Country Park are within walking distance of the town centre. Head uphill from the country park to Solomon’s Temple for panoramic views over the Peaks. For longer hikes, Mam Tor and the Great Ridge are around 10 miles away, while Kinder Scout is 3.5 miles further. For refuelling on day trips, Bakewell (12 miles) is the birthplace of the famous pudding, and Chatsworth House (16 miles) offers upmarket shopping and gourmet experiences.

Enjoy an authentic taste of High Peak life with a self-catering holiday at this characterful town centre cottage. Located at the lower end of Buxton’s main retail artery, it is within easy reach of all the town’s tea rooms, inns and eateries. Step into the living room, where a striking period fireplace steals the scene. A choice of comfortable seating suggests companionable evenings with favourite movies streamed on the Smart TV. Beyond, the staircase runs upwards between this room and the kitchen, where another, much larger fireplace confirms the heritage of the building and provides a stand-out feature. Cabinets painted in period-appropriate green give the kitchen a cosy ambience; work your culinary magic, then take a seat at the rustic dining table to eat and chat about your next day’s adventures. From the kitchen, a useful back porch area offers extra storage space and a door leading out to the rear of the property. When it is time to sleep, ascend the stairs to find two bedrooms, a pretty king size at the front of the property and a charming little room at the rear with single bed, alongside a good-sized bathroom with quirky hand-crafted detailing.

There’s no outdoor space here, but Cote Heath Park is within 300 metres of the doorstep in one direction, and the Pavilion Gardens are less than half a mile in the other. One parking space available to the rear of the cottage and further on-street parking close by.
