  • Perfect for walking and exploring the Isle of Portland, visiting Portland Bill Lighthouse and Dorset

Property code: OC-DC031

Situated on a one-way street, the house enjoys panoramic views over Chesil Cove to Clay Ope and Chesil Beach. Reached via a causeway from Weymouth, the Isle of Portland is an unique destination, full of maritime history and quirky places. Portland Harbour is home to a 16th-century coastal fort, or you could visit the famous Portland Bill Lighthouse. You can explore Church Ope Cove – a former smugglers’ hideout - or visit the Castletown D-Day Centre. Portland has historic quarries where Sir Christopher Wren sourced the stone to build St Pauls Cathedral. Some of these disused quarries are now havens for birds and rare plants and feature a range of artworks including sculpture by Anthony Gormley. There is a host of wildlife to observe - peregrine falcons and gannets can be spotted round Portland and along the cliffs, or try and see dolphins in the waters surrounding the island. Portland Harbour is also famous for its sailing and water sports – watch the kayaks, dinghies and kite surfers or maybe try your hand at paddle boarding! Heading north onto the mainland you can visit the amazing golden sandy beaches of Weymouth (5 miles) or its vibrant marina and harbour. Weymouth has a great range of shops, bars and restaurants so why not sample the fresh seafood just landed from our local waters. Celebrated Lulworth Cove is 20 miles away and Abbotsbury and its famous swannery only 12 miles. You can also take a drive along the world-famous Jurassic Coast to West Bay and Lyme Regis (20 miles)

This welcoming house is conveniently set out for both families and groups of friends. Seven steps lead up to the front door and the tiled hall floor where there’s space for boots and coats, and which leads into the light and comfortable through lounge/dining room. This is a relaxing space, with plenty of seating, a wood burner, a high spec B&W Bluetooth speaker and a bay window with wonderful sea views. Ideal for relaxing with a book or a game or simply chatting before dinner. The delightful dining area is perfect for enjoying a meal together. The well-equipped galley-style kitchen with French doors to the courtyard has a double oven, 5 ring hob, plate warmer, and a fridge, freezer, washing machine, dryer and microwave. Moving up the stairs you will find a half landing which features a shower room with WC, and a spacious bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC. Three more steps take you up to the first floor where you will find the main lounge with comfortable leather sofas, TV/DVD, oak floor and a bay window offering sea views where you can enjoy the spectacular sunsets. Next door to the lounge is a twin room which can be converted on request into a double room with a super king size bed. Going up to the second floor you will find two further bedrooms: a pretty twin and the double master bedroom featuring beautiful sea views.

Heading outside, you can have breakfast or dine in the small courtyard garden which is enclosed by genuine Portland stone walls and features pots, hanging baskets and outdoor furniture. Off-road parking is available for one car at the front of the house, with additional parking in the street.

It's just as described and as seen in the photos. The first floor lounge was our favourite with its lovely view. Very large, comfy bed on this floor too. The perfect place to recharge the batteries.

We loved the house and the views from all levels are stunning. It was comfortable, well equipped and a great base for us to explore the area. The key safe is up the steps by the front door not the one at the driveway level! Important to know when arriving in the dark on a wet and windy November night.

We had a lovely week staying at the beautiful Chesil Lookout. The location has stunning views from the top bedroom, the binoculars provided are a nice touch. It is ideally situated as a great base to explore both Portland and further a field to Dorset. This part of the world is very hilly with steep climbs, but the rugged and beautiful coast lines aRead morere worth it. The house is beautifully kitted out with Japanese touches and a lovely courtyard. Hide

Just returned from a fab week at this property. Beautiful stylish house with a fantastic sea views. There's plenty of room for everyone and it was very comfortable. The only downside is the parking as it's incredibly tight due to cars parking opposite. My husband was a pro by the end of the week.

We really didn't want to leave this house. It was perfect for our requirement of accommodating three generations under one roof. Beds and sofas were extremely comfortable and the whole house had an air of calm about it. Beautifully presented Victorian town house complete with all you require for a holiday. It was very clean with comfortable beds. The view from the first floor living room is stunning and we loved the courtyard garden. You need strong legs for the stairs and the parking is inclined.
