An exquisite cottage overlooking the River Camel, this enticing retreat is an idyllic choice for a North Cornwall stay. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom, characterful hideaway looks out across the water to Padstow, which can be reached via the foot passenger ferry, 500 metres away. Head down to the Rock Beach, 0.5 miles away, to paddle and picnic. Daymer Bay, 1 mile away, is popular for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding, while Porthilly Beach, 1 mile away, is great for rockpooling, and Polzeath Beach, 3 miles away, is one of the UK’s most popular surfing destinations. Make a day of it in Padstow, giving yourself time to explore the delightful streets, potter in the shops and have lunch in a seafood restaurant. Wadebridge, 6.5 miles away, is a small market town, also on the River Camel, with plenty to keep you busy. Hire bikes here and head out along the Camel Trail.

Return from your many trips out to make yourselves comfortable in this cosy and beautifully finished, traditional Cornish cottage. The living space at this hideaway has been designed to ensure you maximise the spell-binding views throughout your stay. Entering at the ground floor, you’ll find the lovely, light twin bedroom. Climb the steep, narrow, cottage-style stairs up to the first floor of the cottage, where you will find your open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner that overlooks the estuary. Enjoy the fabulous views and recline in front of the picture-perfect window with a pair of binoculars. Position yourself in the window seat, with a pair of binoculars, to watch the boats drift up and down the estuary. Warm, freshly baked Cornish pasties in the oven in the kitchen area, then dine together at the table. Recline on the sofa in front of the Smart TV on cosy nights in. The handy utility room and two family bathrooms, one also with a shower, are at this level too, together with your two remaining bedrooms. These include one with a king-size bed and another with twin beds that can also be made up together as a super-king-size by prior arrangements.

The lovely lawned garden rolls down towards the water’s edge. Set yourselves up at the picnic table here, accessed across the road and via a few steps, to dine against the backdrop of the Camel Estuary. Supervise pets and children at all times as you bask out in the Cornish sunshine. There is parking here for two cars.

Wheel Cottage is a charming, ideally proportioned, well equipped and perfectly situated base in Rock to explore this coastal gem and area. A stones throw from the main beach and coastal walks. The views from the window in the evening were mesmerising watching the tides ebb and flow in the sunsets. The garden on the seafront is a bonus and all theseRead more things combined along with the short ferry to Padstow 5 minutes away allowed us to truly make the most of our stay. We will certainly be back when possible to enjoy another relaxing and hugely enjoyable stay again. Hide

We found ourselves looking out of the window more than watching the TV! The picture window was the icing on the cake.

Wheel Cottage was homely, well equipped and clean. I loved the little touches of the welcome gift bag! The dogs loved their treats.
