Set in the picturesque village of Pooley Bridge, this attractive stone cottage makes a wonderful base for families or friends looking to discover the very best of the Lake District. Begin your adventure by hopping aboard an Ullswater steamer - just a short walk from your doorstep (weather dependent). This scenic boat trip glides across one of England's most beautiful lakes and, depending on the time of year, stopping at Howtown, Aira Force and Glenridding. If you’d rather travel by road, the majestic Aira Force waterfall is 6 miles away. History lovers will enjoy visiting Lowther Castle and Gardens (5 miles), where dramatic ruins meet manicured grounds, adventure playgrounds, and a great café. The market town of Penrith (6 miles) is close by for stocking up on supplies or savouring a meal in one of its many pubs and restaurants. A little further along the lake, the village of Glenridding (8 miles) offers more opportunities for lakeside and hill walks and local shopping. Alternatively, head to Keswick (16 miles), a vibrant Cumbrian town surrounded by mountain views and packed with independent shops, eateries, and attractions.

Step through the front door and into this charming riverside cottage, where every corner feels warm and welcoming. A long, book-lined hallway – like your very own private library – sets the tone for a stay filled with relaxation and comfort. The well-equipped kitchen is a light and practical space with great views down the garden and with everything you need for easy self-catering. From here, a door leads straight out to the pretty garden for letting the fresh country air drift in as you cook or brew your morning coffee. At the heart of the home is the open plan living and dining room, with a picture window looking down the garden. A lovely setting for unwinding after a day of exploring. Sink into the plush sofas, watch a film on the TV/DVD player, or curl up beside the wood burner as the flames flicker. Upstairs, you’ll find two bright and inviting bedrooms: a restful king-size room and an inviting twin with single beds – both designed for quiet nights and lazy lie-ins. A sleek, contemporary family bathroom rounds off the first floor, providing the perfect spot for a soothing soak or refreshing shower.

Outside, the pretty garden with a hillside view and a patio for al fresco dining, a lawn fringed with mature flowers and shrubs, and direct access to the river - ideal for relaxing as you watch the water glide by. Lovely property just a few things that would put the cherry on top. A Washing machine is needed at this property, the lakes are an active holiday destination and coupled with unpredictable weather you can get dirty. And then to link to a laundrette in the booklet that is also used to come and clean the place between stays, is very cheeky. UpRead morestairs needs an update, its tired. Also when you sit on the twin room beds, you can feel the slats beneath. Downstairs is furnished lovely with quality furniture, upstairs is not. The toilet flush is loose and temperamental, it needs a new one that just works. An extra Mirror would be useful. The current one fixed to the wall in bathroom means you cant do your hair or use plugs near it. Bit awkward if youre all going out for a meal and all getting ready too. A Garden umbrella would be a lovely extra. Parking was a nightmare - there needs to be some sort of agreement with the all day parking field or some sort of permit with the local car parks down the road. We found ourselves not going out sometimes because we didnt want to have to deal with the parking hassle or pay out on parking every day. The property is Lovely and Clean and a brilliant location. All the Essentials were there when we arrived - toilet roll / towels / washing up liquid / teas and coffees and if we needed anything, there were Great shops a stones throw away. The River access is amazing. The Garden is beautiful and it was lovely having ducks and ducklings in the garden everyday. We sat but the river every day, listening to the birds and spotting fish, it was the highlight of the property. Hide
