A spacious village townhouse, this inviting Belford cottage is a Blue Plaque property due to its impressive, artistic connections. The birthplace of realist artist Sir William Menzies Coldstream; the three-storey, three-bedroom house now sleeps five guests and is an ideal base for couples, families or friends wishing to discover the beauty of coastal Northumberland. Head 4 miles to spectacular Budle Bay, with its wide-open stetches of golden sand and abundant birdlife. Bamburgh Beach, also known for its exceptional beauty, is 6 miles away. While you are here, visit the striking castle set up on the rocks, which famously featured in TV series The Last Kingdom. Venture 9 miles to Seahouses to take a boat trip to the Farne Islands, where you can spot puffins and seals. Plan a trip into Alnwick, 16 miles away, to wander around the shops, pause in a variety of eateries, and visit its famous castle.

Make your way inside from the rear of the house to find yourselves in a large kitchen/diner. Put your groceries away at the kitchen end, before making fresh coffee in the machine to enjoy over at the table. This room is equipped with everything needed to help you whip up hearty holiday feasts. There is also an adjoining utility room and a separate WC. The enticing lounge, with its stone chimney breast, is accessed from the hall and is a calming, restful room in which to relax together. Light up the roaring gas fire, choose a book from the shelf, set a board game up on the coffee table, or find a good film on the Smart TV. As night falls, make your way up to the first and second floors of the house where three restful bedrooms are spread out. Choose from a king-size room with a Smart TV and en-suite shower room, a single bedroom that makes use of the well-appointed family bathroom, and a top-floor twin room that converts to super-king-size on request and boasts a Smart TV as well as French doors leading to a balcony with far-reaching countryside views.

Outside, open a bottle of wine and share it at the table on the balcony as the sun goes down. Make the most of the peaceful, enclosed garden on warm spring and summer days too. Play games with the children on the grass, cook on the BBQ, and dine out in the fresh air. A gate leads to an off-road parking space for one car. Additional spaces are on-street, subject to availability.

The house was really lovely and Greg had thought of everything we could need and more. He texted me to let me know the house was ready a little early which was useful and he also popped-over on the day we arrived to check everything was okay.

This is a superb holiday let. It benefits from a great location, central to all the good things Northumberland has to offer. We really enjoyed our stay here. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with quality furniture and bed linen. The village was so friendly, particularly in the Black Swan, our dog was spoilt with treats from everyone, he had a great time!

The property is a real home from home. Greg the owner has really thought about what people want when staying in a cottage, even more so when its cold and wet as it is only January. Heating was on when we arrived, with milk in fridge, some tea and coffee as well as other store cupboard essentials and some posh crisps, local biscuits and fudge. ThRead moree property is very well set up with a full bathroom (shower over bath), downstairs toilet and ensuite shower room to the main bedroom. All of them had a basket of cleaning products. Very comfy beds with lots of storage in the bedrooms. Kitchen had plenty of crockery, utensils, glasses etc..not exactly 4 or 6 of everything which really is annoying in some places Ive stayed. There was a bag with cleaning cloths and tablets for dishwasher & washing machine so could keep on top of that, as there was also a huge tumble drier in the separate utility room. The upstairs bedroom has a lovely balcony which my daughter did step out onto to see the stars, but too wet and blustery to really benefit but am sure would be lovely later in the year. Blankets in the lounge to chill out with in front of the log effect gas fire, while watching TV and there were games and books for all ages, along with visitor information files. Greg knocked on door a while after we had arrived as lives locally, to check we were all ok and said to let him know if there were any issues or needed help etc. There was a minor issue with a sticky shower over bath later, but Greg came round the following morning as it was not urgent, with some WD40 and easily fixed. A really lovely base for my return trip to the area with my eldest daughter. Local co-op about a 3 minute walk so not at all isolated. Parking outside the property on other side of the road, although there is an option of resident parking at end of the row of cottages if preferred. Would happily return to this house which is so much more spacious than the initial front of house photo on the listing. It is a new holiday listing so dont be put off by there being so few reviews as we found it to be just perfect for us 2 but easily enough room for families as there was another bedroom that we didnt even use. Thanks Greg - great stay. Hide
