Entering this fabulous retreat, a few steps lead down from the main entrance into the light and spacious and fully equipped kitchen/diner, which features the luxury of a Lacanche range cooker, a central island, a media wall, a walk-in pantry and a casual dining space perfect for a snack or quick breakfast. In addition, a concierge service can arrange catering on request (please ask for more details). Exploring the ground floor further, the wood-panelled ground floor features a characterful breakfast room which doubles as a study. You can all get together and chat in the formal lounge, which has a lovely open fire, or snuggle up to watch a movie in the cosy snug with its Smart TV, plush seating and a collection of games. Featuring traditional curtains, ancient wooden beams, oak panelling and a large inglenook fireplace, the main dining hall provides an atmospheric backdrop to a family feast, featuring refectory oak dining tables which can be arranged to seat up to 20 guests. Heading up to the first floor, you will find six spacious and stylishly designed bedrooms: five doubles and a twin; two with en-suite facilities. The opulent main bedroom is dominated by an ornately carved antique Chinese opium bed, surrounded by hand-painted wall murals, alongside a beautiful en-suite bathroom. Each of the bedrooms has been imaginatively curated by the King sisters with their unique Anglo-Indonesian flair, with an array of soft furnishings, lavish silks and gorgeous linens. A further shower room and a bathroom are also on this floor. Finally, on the second floor, there are two further twin bedrooms alongside a delightful playroom and a bathroom featuring a clawfoot bathtub. The playroom has a Smart TV and an array of toys, books and games for younger guests. At at an additional cost there is an annexe which makes a lovely self-contained apartment for four extra guests. Accessed via an external staircase, this cheery hideaway is suitable for adults only and features oak beams, a lounge, a kitchen, two cosy bedrooms: a double and a twin, and a refreshing shower room.
Heading outside, the beautiful, well-tended country gardens are part manicured and part wild, with pathways leading to a traditional parterre garden, a sweet pear arbour and a flower-cutting garden. Guests are welcome to pick fruit, herbs and vegetables from the orchard and the kitchen garden. The grounds, which are bordered by beautiful wisteria-clad stone walls, also feature a lovely cedar-shingled summerhouse, a restored Victorian greenhouse, a croquet lawn and a charming patio perfect for dining alfresco. To the bottom of the garden, a small footbridge takes you over a babbling stream to the beautifully secluded heated outdoor pool, available in the summer months (1 May to 30 September).
