This beautiful remote retreat enjoys an elevated position on the outskirts of Symonds Yat West, with magnificent views across the Wye Valley. The cottage sleeps eight guests and is the ideal base for families and friends with a keen sense of adventure. The surrounding area boasts lovely tracks and trails along the River Wye and through ancient woodlands. You’re also just 6 miles from the outdoor adventure paradise of the Forest of Dean. Hop on the foot ferry across the river to Symonds Yat Rock, where, from its summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views across the Wye Valley. Nearby family attractions include Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo (1 mile), Puzzlewood (9 miles), and Clearwell Caves (11 miles). There are also numerous outdoor adventure centres in the area, offering canoe, kayak, and paddleboard hire. For shopping and dining, venture to the charming market towns of Monmouth (4.5 miles) and Ross-on-Wye (9.5 miles).

The cottage is set on the hillside, high in the valley, and is accessed via a series of narrow country lanes, a single-track road, and a steep driveway. Inside, the cottage is decorated and furnished in a traditional, homely style, and many of the rooms boast far-reaching rural views. Leave walking boots in the porch before heading through to the contemporary kitchen/diner, where you’ll find everything needed to whip up feasts for the group and a large dining table with views of the garden. In the evenings, chill out in the comfortable lounge, snuggled up on the L-shaped sofa with a good book or a classic film on the TV. If you can’t all decide what to watch, then take yourself off to the cosy snug, which also has a TV as well as a selection of board games. Completing the ground floor is a delightful double bedroom, a refreshing shower room, and a handy utility room. The three remaining bedrooms – two doubles and a twin – are upstairs, along with the family bathroom.

Outside, the enclosed garden has a terraced patio area and beyond this is a sloped lawn with mature trees and pretty flower beds. At the top of the garden is a children’s play area with a slide. The property has private, gated parking for four cars. Please note, there is a pond in the garden and children must be supervised at all times.

Plum Tree Cottage was ideal for the celebration of my 70th birthday with the family. The cottage was comfortable and very suitable for children with play equipment in the garden was used by them. The kitchen is well equipped. The location is lovely with views of the Wye Valley and is in a very quiet and peaceful spot.
