Set amidst the wild beauty of northern Scotland, this traditional stone-built cottage is an excellent base for couples looking to experience the dramatic landscapes and rich heritage of Caithness. Just 11 miles away lies Sinclair’s Bay, known locally as Reiss Beach – a vast stretch of pristine white sand framed by dunes and flanked by two 16th-century castles. It’s a peaceful spot for picnics, walks, and wildlife watching, with seals and seabirds often seen along the shore, and surfers taking advantage of its quality beach break. Venture a little further to John O’Groats (22 miles). Here, you can wander along the dramatic coastline, take a ferry to the Orkney Islands, or simply soak up the atmosphere of this famous ‘end of the road’ village. As the northernmost point on the British mainland, Dunnet Head (23 miles) boasts spectacular views across the Pentland Firth, rugged cliffs teeming with birdlife, and the historic Dunnet Head Lighthouse.

All arranged on one level, this welcoming retreat is designed for easy, laid-back living. Step into the entrance vestibule, where you can kick off muddy walking boots and hang up coats after a day roaming the great outdoors. The open-plan living space is bright and airy, with a timber-clad ceiling adding warmth and rustic charm. A wood burner promises cosy evenings curled up on the sofa, while the Smart TV provides entertainment for relaxed nights in. The sleek, well-equipped kitchen and dining area make mealtimes a breeze, whether you’re enjoying a lazy breakfast or a candlelit supper for two. The spacious shower room features a large walk-in shower, while the beautifully appointed king-size bedroom, set at the rear of the property, offers complete tranquillity with far-reaching views of the surrounding countryside.

Outside, the private enclosed garden invites you to unwind in the fresh air. Sip a morning coffee or evening drink as you take in the rural setting while Highland cows graze nearby. With parking for two cars, you’ll have everything you need for a stress-free escape.

We loved our stay here. The location is perfect; we were greeted by Highland cows and newborn lambs every morning. The building and its facilities are amazing. Its a perfect place to unwind and an excellent base for exploring the north coast.

The cottage was beautiful, tastefully decorated, modern but still capturing the the farmhouse/rural feel, it was well equipped and cosy. The property manager was really easy to talk to and made us feel so welcome, we loved all the little thoughtful touches such as providing dog bowls and a dog bed, along with the welcome hamper. The highland coos iRead moren the park next door were an added bonus. Hide
