Surrounded by 19 acres idyllic countryside, including Ambrose Hill, which offers far reaching views across Somerset and south over the hills of Dorset. This stylish and tranquil holiday escape is an ideal getaway for one or two people wanting to explore a stunning part of Dorset. The historic town of Sherborne is just 2 miles away; its honey-coloured streets lined with shops, pubs and lovely places to eat. Admire its stately abbey, one of the finest buildings in the county, and two castles – the 12th-century ‘old castle’ and a 16th-century castle built by Sir Walter Raleigh. Visit the National Trust properties of Stourhead, Barrington Court, and Montacute House (all within 14 miles), or head to Cerne Abbas village (11 miles) for its famous hillside chalk giant. Alternatively, enjoy a day at the seaside in vibrant West Bay (26 miles) with its picturesque harbour and popular beaches.

The pretty, two-storey rooms have their own private entrance. Enter the kitchen/diner, overlooking a lawn and trees to the north, with its vibrant paintwork and patterned modern tiles – a lovely detail which complements the sleek cabinetry. The kitchen space boasts everything needed for a self-catered stay, while the dining table has enough room to set up a romantic meal for two. From the inner hallway, take the stairs to the first floor – which is all set into the eaves and has some restricted head height due to the characterful sloping ceilings. The compact lounge is a cosy space, furnished with comfortable seating and benefiting from wonderful views over the garden to rolling countryside in the south. This room also has a Smart TV, so you can relax in the evenings and stream your favourite shows. The double bedroom is light and bright, with skylights on three sides – again with those fabulous views. Completing the interior is a vividly decorated shower room, with character tiling. Under the stairs you will find the washing machine.

Whilst there is no private garden allocated at the property, a bistro table and chairs is available immediately outside the front door for your use. In addition there is a bench and table under the trees by the black fence beyond the property and another behind the property near the vegetable beds. You are welcome to take a wander around the fields. There is parking for two cars immediately by the entrance. Two of the ground floor rooms in the annexe are used by the owners but are accessed independently.

We were greeted by the owners of the property. They were very helpful and friendly. We were very happy with Standwell Back. Plenty of walks in the area. A lovely large garden for dogs to have a good walk and other fields adjacent. In all a very good and comfortable holiday home.
