A charming lodge retreat located in the Ross-shire countryside on the hillsides of Alness overlooking the Cromarty Firth. This lodge makes for a superb base if you are looking to enjoy the many places to visit on this beautiful coastline or fancy exploring one of the many walks, forest tracks, or cycle routes the region offers. Fyrish Monument (7 miles) is definitely worth the hike and effort for the views. There are plenty of sandy beaches, including Dornoch, Portmahomack, Shandwick, and Fortrose, where seals and dolphins are often spotted – all within 22 miles. Dornoch (22.5 miles) is a short drive away, well worth a visit for some shopping and a bite to eat. Dunrobin Castle (32 miles) is also worthy of a trip, sitting just north of Dornoch. In the summer, there is a small Ferry from Nigg (14 miles) across to the historic village of Cromarty.

This timber lodge has been built to an exceptional standard, making for a unique stay in the highlands. Enclosed by a natural tree canopy, you will arrive and feel instantly relaxed as you are greeted inside this beautifully styled and modern cabin. Designed for comfort in an open-plan social style. The well-equipped modern designer-style kitchen offers a great space to cook and eat in, if not dining out at one of the local restaurants. Chat, play games or choose a movie to watch on the Smart TV, and there is a Bluetooth speaker if you prefer some background music and a book. When the sun goes down on your busy day, wander through to one of the two bedrooms. There is a double bedroom and a twin available, offering flexibility for couples or a family break. Both rooms share a modern shower room, which has been tastefully decorated.

Step outside to the covered porch to the front, or sit under the garden canopy on the comfortable outdoor seating and enjoy the fresh air in the back garden. It’s a peaceful space to unwind in any season, with the wonderful fire pit to create a cosy evening atmosphere when night falls. It’s a perfect way to spend nights outside under the stars and moon, which is often positioned over the Cromarty Firth. There is a covered area where bikes can be secured with locks.

Absolutely lovely cabin sitting on the former tennis court of the big house next door. Despite the proximity there was a nice sense of privacy, enhanced by trees and mature shrubs. The attention to detail in the decor was really well thought-out compared with some places we've stayed, and there's a very well-equipped kitchen with space to put yoRead moreur groceries in the dresser cupboards. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, we spent a wonderful few evenings down in the gazebo with a wood fire going, watching rabbits, pheasants and owls hopping and swooping around us. I would definitely recommend for a peaceful getaway! I'd recommend a trip to Dunrobin Castle, Fort George, and watching the bottlenosed dolphins at Chanonry Point, where they breach within metres of the shore. Many thanks to Jane for her thoughtful hospitality, we'll definitely be back some time! Hide

Culcairn Cottage is a beautiful holiday letting set amongst the trees and grounds of the owner's wonderful property. Overlooking the Cromarty Firth and surrounded by rolling fields and hillsides, lots of wildlife, and the peace and quiet, you can be assured of a memorable Highland stay. The cabin itself is built with care and intended for comfort. Read moreFitted with all the conveniences and high-quality decor, it is decorated with style and a wonderful space to inhabit for a wee while. Although here at the tail end of winter, I am watching the owners erect a new bbq gazebo overlooking the landscape and the distant ocean, and can only imagine what a place it will be to while away the evening in the summer months. Couldn't recommend it enough! Hide

We even had an evening roasting marshmallows over the fire pit in the garden. Would highly recommend booking this cabin to anyone visiting the area. Hide
