Oriel Cottage is a delightful barn conversion and, along with its sister property House Martins, sits in secluded rolling landscape alongside the owners' own Georgian country house. Adding to the luxury is an outside hot tub so you can unwind with a glass of wine in the bubbles enjoying the scenery around this stunning home on the fringes of Exmoor National Park. Exposed stonework, structural timbers and slate flooring give the building an old world charm, while a woodburner promises a cosy welcome after exploring North Devon. The roomy living area has patio doors opening onto a large lawned garden with patio and garden furniture for al fresco dining. The stylish bedrooms are at each end of the barn. A double just off the lounge has further patio doors and has an en-suite shower room. The second has a King sized bed and another Single bed to add extra options for sleeping arrangements. A stylish family bathroom with roll top bath completes the accommodation. A short drive takes you to Ilfracombe, which has a delightful mix of Victorian and Regency architecture, pretty harbour, independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. The harbour, with Damien Hirst’s infamous bronze statue Verity, and the Tunnels Beaches, are well worth a visit along with the award-winning Ilfracombe Aquarium, fascinating Ilfracombe Museum, Larkstone Leisure Park, Hele Cornmill and Chambercombe Manor - one of Britain's most haunted houses. Or head east for Exmoor National Park, which has Europe’s very first International Dark Sky Reserve, the tallest tree in England, the highest cliffs in England, almost 250 species of bird and over 1,000 different flowering plants and grasses, the highest number of wild red deer in England and wild native ponies, perfectly adapted to the upland conditions of Exmoor

Exceedingly well equipped and cosy - though we didnt need the heating this time as the weather was so warm. Our second time here . Very central to visit loads of places. Eat out at the Black Venus Inn in Challacombe- booking essential

Quiet and peaceful with great privacy. Huge hot tub which we enjoyed at the end of most days. Cottage is lovely and warm. First impressions were that it was a bit far from the places we wanted to visit but soon found out we could get anywhere we wanted to go in half an hour. Excellent place if you are bringing a dog

It's is isolated , no phone signal and does have farming around it . So there will be farmyard noises and smells if you are happy with that then it's a great place . The lane you drive up is sooo much longer than your expecting , but it's worth the trip . Clean well appointed and has good broadband. Plenty of wildlife as well house martins , deer aRead morend buzzards . Not far from some great dog friendly beaches Hide

Nice, quiet location with excellent accommodation. Hot Tub was brilliant & good to have a log burning stove, if required. Beds were super comfy & a good size. Would recommend.

Oriel Cottage was an amazing find lovely appearance and very clean inside. Perfect for a restful holiday but also central for plenty of dog friendly walks and things to do and see in North Devon

We spent a week at Oriel cottage during August 2023. Its in a good location to get to Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Saunton and Barnstable, all are within a 20 min drive. You should note that the access road to the property is private and its about a mile from the main road. You cannot turn right onto the main road when you leave or take a left into the Read moreaccess road when returning, as we found out to our cost! Instead do a U turn at the saw mill, which is just down the main road. The hot tub was nice, however the jets are not very strong for my taste, I wonder if it needs servicing? The garden is private and not overlooked and its a fairly well equipped property. The beds were fine, but we found the sofa really uncomfortable. The outside clothes airer is a welcome addition. The floors in the property were not very clean, there was a big clump of hair in the en-suite bathroom and it just needed a good sweep, which I did. I would have mopped it if there had been one there to use! There was also a slight smell of damp, its very strong in the cupboard with the cleaning equipment. You might want to do some local research as there was no local information, local recommendations or a visitors book (old ones) so you can read up on others suggestions. You should also do some shopping as there is no welcome pack with this property, not even a pint of milk, which was extremely disappointing! I cant get over that there was absolutely no local information given by the owners not even about where to do a U turn out of the access road and to then not even get milk so you can at least have a cuppa after a long journey more than disappointing given the nearest shop is 6 miles away! We visited family who were staying in another property a few miles away and the information pack for their property was excellent and they did get a welcome pack too! This lack of detail just doesnt make you feel very welcome in my opinion. We liked the area and loved Woolacombe beach, its safe with plenty of life guards, so the kids got to enjoy plenty of bodyboarding and surfing which made our holiday. Hide
