The surrounding landscapes offer the opportunity for scenic walks and bike rides – both gentle and challenging – while keen golfers will want to try Gleneagles, Carnoustie, and St Andrews (all within 26 miles). The small yet vibrant city of Perth is only 10 miles away, and worth a visit for its shops and cafes, museums, art gallery, park, theatres and public art trail. In Dundee (14 miles), you’ll find the V&A and Discovery museums, as well as a larger selection of shops.

With books and board games provided, plus a Bluetooth speaker and a Smart TV for entertainment, this is a welcoming home-from-home in which to relax after a day adventuring outdoors – there’s even a wood burner to add glowing warmth in the cooler months. There’s a dining table just for two that’s perfect for romantic meals. In the compact kitchen you’ll have an oven, hob, fridge and microwave ready for whipping up hearty Scottish breakfasts and tasty suppers – plus a washer/dryer for convenience. The king-size bedroom has been styled with soft colours, natural textures and pretty linens for a dreamy night’s sleep – and there’s ample storage space for your clothes. Completing the pretty interior is a well-appointed bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Any time you feel like some fresh air, stroll into the fully enclosed garden, with a patio and two areas of lawn, to either sip your morning coffee, bring a meal outside or simply sit and look up at the stars. We loved staying at Southbank Cottage and exploring the beautiful countryside of Perthshire and the Kingdom of Fife. The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable and being able to look across the River Tay from the cottage was delightful. Highly recommended and would stay again in a heartbeat.
