A splendid stone holiday haven, this enchanting retreat is the perfect place from which to immerse yourselves in the picturesque Peak District. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom retreat nestles in glorious Staffordshire surroundings near Winkhill, 2 miles from Waterhouses and 6.5 miles from Leek. While away an afternoon in Leek, browsing in the shops and stocking up on fresh produce. Ashbourne, 10 miles away, is also a lovely place to potter. Pull on your walking boots or hop on the saddle to head out along trails through the national park. Follow a section of the spectacular, 10-mile Manifold Valley Walk, taking you through the White Peak, Dovedale and Ilam Park. Venture 6 miles from the cottage to see the natural phenomenon of Thor’s Cave, a cavern set in a steep limestone crag. Take the younger members of your party for a thrilling day out at Alton Towers, 6.5 miles away.

Tear yourselves away from the views to step into this impressive retreat. Slip off your shoes and hang your coats in the generous reception hall, before wandering on inside to discover sumptuous accommodation that exudes quality and finesse. Featuring stone floors, original woodwork and exquisite furniture and furnishings, your comfort is assured at every turn. Head into the lounge to sink back into the soft seating and light the wood burner in the stone inglenook fireplace. Open your holiday novels or find your favourite programme on the Smart TV as the flames crackle. When mealtimes arrive, head across the hall to the country-style kitchen/diner, where you can open the French doors set into the original barn entrance on sunny days. A handy utility room where you can rinse and dry your holiday wear is close by. Here is also a useful WC downstairs. As the sun goes down on your fabulous day away, head up to your three bedrooms. These include two super-king-sizes, one with an attractive sleigh bed and stylish en-suite shower room, and the other with superb views and a door opening onto the cottage’s original stone steps. Please take care if using these. The twin bedroom, which offers the choice of a shower or bath, and family bathroom are also here. Please note there is a step down into one of the bedrooms.

Make the most of the enclosed garden on fine days. Play games with any children on the lawn, dine on the patio and cook on the BBQ. Gaze out across the river and countryside as you watch the birds and look out for other wildlife. There is off-road parking here for six cars.
