Lincolnshire’s landscape is criss-crossed by airfields and reminders of the county’s role in aviation history – including Metheringham Airfield, once home to 106 Bomber Squadron, which flew its first WWII sortie in 1943. You’ll travel along the apron of the airfield as you approach this decommissioned barn, now sensitively converted into a beautiful holiday abode. An on-site visitor centre preserves the memory of the aircraft and people who served here, while a shop and café serve refreshments and souvenirs to satisfy all appetites. Step further back in time with a visit to the historic city of Lincoln (13 miles), where must-see attractions include a Gothic cathedral and, close by, a stunning castle which houses a Victorian prison and a copy of the Magna Carta. Closer to home, Woodhall Spa (6.5 miles) has peaceful, tree-lined streets and an elegant Edwardian atmosphere.
A private driveway leads up to this striking holiday home, which sits in private grounds surrounded by a beautiful rural landscape. This ultra-stylish abode is now an off-the-beaten-track bolthole for two couples, a family or a friendship group, plus a couple of canine companions. Inside, the open-plan lounge/diner has French doors and windows on each side, plus inviting sofas arranged before a large Smart TV. There’s plenty of social space in the dining suite; the nearby kitchen is sleek and has its own doors onto the garden, plus a breakfast bar where you can chat and enjoy a drink as dinner cooks. Upstairs, two sanctuary-like bedrooms beckon, one at each end of the landing with a modern shower room midway between the two. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and a Juliet balcony that gives breathtaking views over the tree-dotted fields beyond. The second room has a versatile super-king-size bed which can be made up instead as twins, ensuring the property is suitable for any party of four.
You’ll get a real appreciation of your secluded location as you step outside. To the front of the property, the driveway is edged by lawn, while to the rear, there’s a patio, outdoor kitchen area complete with pizza oven and BBQ, and a pergola providing shelter above an al fresco dining suite. Keep a lookout for the resident barn owls; you may even be lucky enough to spot the Red Arrows training overhead, too.
