For a very special holiday escape with family or friends, this superb property offers the chance for up to ten people to relax and unwind in the most beautiful, tranquil landscape with an unrivalled selection of walks from your door and in the nearby area. Discover forests, rivers and rock pools on foot, and perhaps have a go at climbing or scrambling. Tucked away in the stunning Duddon Valley, one of the most peaceful parts of the Lake District, the house is just 3 miles from the nearest pub at Seathwaite, and 4.5 miles from Broughton-in-Furness, which has shops, pubs and a cafe serving home-cooked food. Explore the quaint towns and villages dotted around the area, including Millom (10 miles), with its folk museum, and pretty Ravenglass, 11 miles away, the starting point for the miniature steam-train service which winds up the spectacular Eskdale Valley. For anyone looking for a challenge, Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, is 15 miles away.

This double-fronted stone house is set over three storeys and has a beautiful mix of antiques and modern fittings, with lovely slate floors and oak floorboards. As befits its historic character, there are some internal steps and low ceilings. Enter either through the front door, or through a side door to hang up your coats and store muddy boots. Stroll through to the handsome kitchen/diner, which is set up for easy holiday cooking with all the equipment you’ll need, including an induction hob, double oven and dishwasher. Adding to the country-house style, there’s a wood burner in here, as well as a large dresser and grandfather clock. In the utility, you’ll find a washing machine and tumble dryer, and next to this, there’s a handy downstairs WC. Finally on this floor, go through to the lounge, which has comfortable seating and another wood burner – perfect for those cosy evenings in when you feel like setting up a movie night on the Smart TV. Take the stairs to the first floor, where there are four bedrooms, including an en-suite double (please note that there are steps down into the shower room), an en-suite twin, another double and a king-size. On the half landing level, there’s a third stylish shower room with a rainfall shower. Going on up to the light, attic top floor, which has large areas of low, sloping ceiling with original beams and fully fitted carpet, there’s a first room with casual seating and TV, a great spot in which younger members of the group can hang out together. Leading from this is the final double bedroom.

The extensive, fully enclosed garden is ideal for children and dogs looking to play on the lawn or take shelter in the pretty summer house – though please keep a close eye on them at all times, as there is a pond at the back of the grounds. You’ll have private parking for two cars with an electric car charger, with additional parking on the street opposite the house.
