The dramatic Churchill Barriers (5 miles) and the beautifully decorated Italian Chapel (5.5 miles) are also must-sees. Take a day trip to Hoy, where the recently opened Scapa Flow Museum in Lyness offers a powerful glimpse into Orkney’s wartime history. In Orkney, you are surrounded by beautiful beaches, and there are plenty of walking routes too.
