Looking to unwind in the heart of the countryside? This two-bedroom dog-friendly thatched cottage is perfect for couples or small family groups. It’s set in a peaceful rural spot and only 4 miles from the market town of Bridport, where you’ll find independent shops, artsy cafes and a brilliant twice-weekly street market. Head 5 miles to Symondsbury Estate for a bite to eat or a scenic walk up Colmer’s Hill, or pop to West Bay (7 miles) for fresh sea air and fish and chips by the harbour. Golden Cap (7 miles), the highest point on the South Coast and a National Trust gem, is ideal for hikers. For classic seaside charm, drive to Lyme Regis (13 miles) and enjoy its sandy beaches, cute shops and ample fossil hunting opportunities.

Kick off your boots in the handy little boot room before stepping into the warm and welcoming country-style kitchen/diner – it’s brimming with charm, with an apron sink and skylight. From here, head through to the inner hallway and into the cosy living room, where comfortable seating and a Smart TV invite you to relax after a day out (note: the fireplace is decorative only). There’s one bedroom on the ground floor – a bright double – along with the family bathroom with WC, fab for guests with limited mobility. Upstairs is a king-size bedroom with an adjoining snug – perfect for enjoying a peaceful moment with views across the garden and rolling fields beyond. Please note due to the nature of the cottage the stairs up to the first floor are a little steep.

Outside, make the most of good weather in the rear garden, which combines a spacious terrace and large lawn – great for energetic pets and children. You can dine alfresco then unwind on the wooden swing seat, your favourite drink in hand. Overlooking the Marshwood Vale, with far reaching views of the sea. There’s private off-road parking for one car with additional public parking opposite the property.

The cottage is beautifully decorated and well situated for visits to the beach, Bridport and Lyme Regis. However, we had various issues during the holiday relating to the lockbox, hot water and heating. The owner assisted us in resolving and/ or mitigating the impact of these issues.

A lovely cottage. Good location. Very well equipped, and a substantial welcome pack which was so thoughtful. Email from the owner prior to our arrival was very helpful, as was the information folder in the cottage. Definitely worth a stay!!
