Rolling hills and babbling brooks are synonymous with West Witton, a picture-perfect village in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Striking stone cottages line the main street through the village; among them, this three-storey, mid-terraced dwelling, which sits within easy reach of an 18th-century pub, a boutique restaurant and a convenient shop (all within 650 metres). As a base for hikers, the property is hard to beat – a circular trail from the doorstep will take you to Penhill Beacon, while another passes several waterfalls en route to the powerful Aysgarth Falls. For a gentler stroll, Leyburn (4 miles) – Lower Wensleydale’s main market town – is much-loved for its independent shops, traditional pubs and auction house. Home to a weekly farmers’ market, it is also the starting point for rides on the heritage Wensleydale Railway.

Part of a terrace on the eastern edge of the village, this handsome holiday home has roadside parking on the doorstep so you can unpack and settle in at your own pace. A contemporary neutral colour palette features throughout the property. Step into the spacious sitting and dining room, and the scene is set for relaxing evenings at home, the underfloor heating complemented by a modern wood burner set into the original fireplace. A dining table sits before the front window; savour the Wensleydale views as you enjoy tasty meals fresh from the adjacent kitchen before snuggling on the sofa with the Smart TV for entertainment. When it’s time to sleep, two dreamy bedrooms beckon from the two upper floors. On the first, the master features a super-king-size bed and sits just along the landing from a fabulous shower room. On the top floor, a sanctuary-like single bedroom sits beneath the eaves, with exposed beams and stunning views across the countryside to the River Ure.

Drink in more Dales views from the patio garden at the rear of the property – a stable door from the kitchen makes it easy to enjoy al fresco food and drinks here while the view towards Penhill will whet your appetite for the next day’s adventures.

What a wonderful house hug. Everything but everything thought of. From the little things so thoughtful to the big things so generous. Tried but couldn't fault it. Perfect.

We had a wonderful stay at this cottage and couldnt fault it. The furnishings are high quality and thoughtfully chosen, and absolutely everything you could need is provided. The welcome basket was a lovely touch, as was the dog basket with towel and chews etc. The open fire made the cottage incredibly cosy, perfect for relaxing evenings in. The locRead moreation is fantastic just a five-minute walk to a wonderful pub - the Fox & Hound (amazing welcome and food) There was access to a multitude of beautiful walks directly from the property. We walked to Tupgill Park across the fields and back along the River Ure after a wonderful lunch at the Saddle Room. The large open grass area to the rear was an added bonus and ideal for our dog. A truly comfortable, well-equipped, and welcoming place to stay and our host Janet was most helpful. Hide

We've had a wonderful 4 nights. Location was excellent for some great walks. It really was a home from home. We needn't have taken anything extra as it was all provided. Thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage.
