Cowes on the Isle of Wight is awash with yachting and Royal heritage. Visit the harbour to watch vessels heading into the Solent then visit Cowes Maritime Museum and the Classic Boat Museum. Cross the River Medina to East Cowes and just over a mile away where Queen Victoria’s beloved Osborne House dominates the landscape. On the southern side of the island, you’ll find some of the royal’s most-loved landmarks, including Ventnor Botanic Garden (15 miles) and nearby Blackgang Chine, the UK’s oldest family theme park. Closer to home, Gurnard Beach offers great views across the Solent – especially beautiful at sunset – while behind the beach huts there’s a children's playground. Follow the esplanade for a walk at the water’s edge to the iconic Royal Yacht Squadron. From there it’s just 300m into a town centre full of fashionable shops and a fine choice of inns and eateries – something for everyone!
