Cowes on the Isle of Wight is awash with yachting and Royal heritage. Visit the harbour to watch vessels heading into the Solent then visit Cowes Maritime Museum and the Classic Boat Museum. Cross the River Medina to East Cowes and just over a mile away where Queen Victoria’s beloved Osborne House dominates the landscape. On the southern side of the island, you’ll find some of the royal’s most-loved landmarks, including Ventnor Botanic Garden (15 miles) and nearby Blackgang Chine, the UK’s oldest family theme park. Closer to home, Gurnard Beach offers great views across the Solent – especially beautiful at sunset – while behind the beach huts there’s a children's playground. Follow the esplanade for a walk at the water’s edge to the iconic Royal Yacht Squadron. From there it’s just 300m into a town centre full of fashionable shops and a fine choice of inns and eateries – something for everyone!

Located in a quiet residential area, this lovely bungalow has a long private driveway where you can park and unpack at your own pace. Inside, subtle coastal styling flows throughout. Leave your outdoor gear in the hallway then turn left into a chic kitchen which has all the essentials of home. At the far end, a seating area is fabulously light and gives direct access to the rear garden. Sharing the same sunny outlook, the spacious living room has a large window framing distant sea views. Furnished with comfortable sofas, an armchair a dining suite, this room is sure to be the social hub of your holiday; stream a movie on the Smart TV or choose a book from the shelves and unwind before the wood burner. When it’s time to sleep, three inviting bedrooms are also off the hallway. The first is a cheerful children’s room complete with bunk beds, while the second offers flexibility with a zip-and-link king-size bed which can be arranged as two singles if preferred. The third bedroom has a comfortable double bed, and all three are complemented by a contemporary family bathroom that includes a shower over the bath so you have the option of a quick rinse or a more leisurely soak.

A lawned garden with seasonal borders edges the driveway at the front of the property, while at the rear the private patio-style garden is filled with mature plants and colourful flowers. Well-placed garden furniture and a fire pit create the ideal setting for al fresco food and drinks.

The log burner smoked such that we needed to open all the windows as we were concerned for Carbon monoxide leakage.; clearly there is insufficient draw suggesting that this new stove has been fitted incorrectly. This is a serious H&S issue and needs to be addressed immediately. NB We have log burners at home The garden was unkempt with abandoned Read moreitems. The rear garden is wholly unsuitable for dogs or children as it is small, and the only tiny green area is smothered with invasive ground elder. Caustic brightly coloured dishwasher tablets were lying around easily accessible in a "child friendly' property. The main bedroom was constantly cold, it is north facing, has a window covering 60% of the wall and has an inadequately sized radiator for the room size considering these issues. The drive is very narrow, we were required to disembark passengers and dogs on the road from our small family car before reversing onto the drive to avoid clambering out into bushes and flower borders. Holidaycottages adroitly avoided answering questions about the nearest 'beach' which turns out to be a rocky weed strewn coastline Response from holidaycottages.co.uk: Thank you for your review. Weve spoken to the owner and the issues have now been resolved. Hide

The cottage was clean, spacious and well equipped. The location meant it was to get around the island. It is only a short drive from the centre of Cowes if you want to out for dinner or just a casual drink.
