The bustling spa town of Buxton, with its annual music and arts festival, Victorian Opera House, and Pavilion Gardens, is 13 miles north and the market town of Ashbourne 10 miles south. Visit medieval Haddon Hall, 8.5 miles, or impressive Chatsworth House, 12.5 miles, both of which have frequently featured as film and TV locations. The Chatsworth Estate boasts extensive parklands, walks, gardens, Farm Shop and Garden Centre. Nearby Hartington, just 2 miles away, features The Old Hartington Cheese Shop, a Farm Shop and Café, and more. The picturesque village of Tissington with its elegant Jacobean Hall and gardens, 6 miles away, is famous for its Well Dessings in early May. And don’t forget Bakewell, 9 miles, where you can sample the famous pudding from the Bakewell Pudding Shop.

At the end of your outings, return to this quirky barn conversion, a delightful mix of glass, stone and wood, with elegant décor and some interesting antique furniture. The open-plan living room  includes a wood burning stove and a Smart TV, sofa, armchair and ottoman. The kitchen/dining area with hand-made units and a farmhouse table and chairs, looks out over the paddocks to the front, where you can watch the horses graze. The glazed utility/boot room to the rear is perfect for storing boots and walking gear as well as cleaning muddy paws. Glazed doors from living room and boot room lead to the garden with a hot tub under the gazebo. As night falls, climb the wooden staircase which opens direct into the delightful bedroom. This lovely space has sloping ceilings and skylight windows that let the light flood in. Choose a book from the shelf, relax in a chair or run a deep bath, then lie back and gaze at the stars in the clear night skies. Enjoy an excellent night’s sleep in the sumptuous super king size bed (which can be made up as twin beds on request). A contemporary wet room adjoins the bedroom.

Spend fine days and balmy evenings out in the charming natural garden area to one side of the house, with a wide variety of trees and shrubs, a garden bench and views over the paddocks to the countryside beyond. Soak in the hot tub after your Derbyshire walks and exhilarating cycle rides. Although seemingly secluded and away from it all, the barn is within a leisurely stroll of the Biggin Hall Hotel, with its AA Rosette restaurant, or the Waterloo Inn in the village, if you fancy a drink or a meal out.
