A delightful retreat ideal for a couple seeking to get away from it all, this enticing cottage nestles at the heart of charming Cockermouth. Sleeping two guests, the one-bedroom hideaway is just 350 metres from the National Trust’s historic Wordsworth House and Garden, once the childhood home of the renowned English poet. It is also well positioned for the River Derwent and shops and eateries of the market town. Head into the magnificent national park to spend time at beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake, 6 miles away, or scenic Derwent Water 12 miles away. Here you can choose to stroll along the shores, take a lake cruise, or head out on the water in a canoe or kayak. The Lakeland town of Keswick, with its interesting outlets and theatre by the lake, is the same distance away. Venture 7.5 miles to the coast at Maryport, not forgetting to visit the aquarium.

Take a step up from the street to enter this inviting, yellow-painted abode and find yourselves in the friendly, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. With a wooden floor, exposed timber doors and fireplace housing a wood burner-effect electric fire, this living space still retains a true sense of its original character. Settle back on the comfortable leather seating to read your books, enjoy a cup of tea, or watch the Smart TV. Take a step up to the kitchen area to prepare delicious meals with fresh Cumbrian produce on those occasions you choose not to book a table in one of the town’s many pubs or restaurants. There is a breakfast bar here where you can sit up to eat or savour a cup of coffee after your meal. When you are ready to retire for the night, carefully climb the spiral staircase up to the first floor of the cottage.
