Straddling the Essex-Suffolk border and synonymous with artists including John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough, and Sir Alfred Munnings, the Dedham Vale National Landscape is a great choice for a grown-up getaway. Choose this chocolate-box cottage as your base and you’ll see what makes the area so special. Within 200 metres, Dedham’s quaint high street is home to independent shops, cosy pubs and appetite-whetting tearooms, plus an art and crafts centre. Wander half a mile to the pretty meadows beside the River Stour and you’ll find a popular spot for wild swimming, picnics and hiring rowing boats. Further afield, explore the small riverside town of Mistley (5 miles), famous for its neo-classical towers and Georgian high street. Venture to Ipswich (11.5 miles), which is steeped in maritime history and features a modern waterfront where luxury yachts and leisure boats berth before a quayside lined with bars and restaurants.

Close to the former church that now houses Dedham’s popular Art & Craft Centre, this handsome holiday home puts you at the centre of village life. Step through the front door and a small hallway leads into a lounge rich in period features, including a beamed ceiling and brick fireplace. Stretch out on a comfortable sofa, light the wood burner and settle down for a home-from-home evening in front of the Smart TV. To one end of the room, a dining table for four sits conveniently close to the adjacent kitchen. There’s a wealth of eating-out options on your doorstep, but you’ll find all the essentials for fuss-free self-catering here, including those modern must-haves: a Nespresso coffee machine and double air fryer. The ground floor layout is completed by a bathroom off the entrance hallway. Head upstairs and two blissful bedrooms, a welcoming king-size and a double.

Your living space extends into a lovely country garden, accessed either from the kitchen or from the side of the property. A pretty seating area overlooks the meadow behind, while a gas BBQ and Ooni pizza oven offer a range of al fresco cooking options. Light the fire pit and linger long after the sun has gone down. Such a gorgeous cottage, full of history and beams. The garden is small, but the view is stunning, especially at 6am with the sun shining through the trees and the odd rabbit or deer, overlooking a pond and surrounded by trees. You have to park in car park, but distance wasnt that far. Take the beautiful scenic route through Dedham Hall entrance, pRead moreast the pond to car park, its quicker, with possible off lead area for your dog and comes out at the back of car park. Restaurants are all dog friendly. Explore the amazing fields across to Flatford/East Bergholt. Childrens playground and dog friendly green off the Royal Square. Remember to visit the Munnings art museum - beautiful art and lovely tea room in beautiful setting. I love Dedham and would certainly recommend. Hide

We really enjoyed our 7-night stay at Corner Cottage it was just right for us as a couple travelling with our dog. The cottage was comfortable and well-suited to a relaxing break. The village itself is lovely, with a great choice of pubs and cafs, and its very dog-friendly. One of the highlights was being able to head out on walks straight fromRead more the door without needing to drive, which made the stay especially easy and enjoyable. Parking was a slight inconvenience, as we werent able to pay for the car park for the full week in one go, so it required a bit of topping up. That said, it didnt detract from our overall experience. Wed highly recommend the walk to Flatford a real must-do while staying here. The Old Bakery Caf was particularly friendly and welcoming, and we found ourselves preferring The Sun Inn over The Marlborough for food and atmosphere. Overall, a really enjoyable stay in a charming location wed happily return. Hide

This cottage was comfortable enough but quite small there were only three of us and that was ample. The bathroom is very snug and steamed up but the towels were plentiful and of good quality. The cottage was well appointed, characterful, clean and comfortable. It had charm and was well situated for all local walks. We had an amazing 4 night stay at the cottage 4 adults and our cocker spaniel, George and Cavapoo Sylvie. The cottage was so lovely and all rooms were perfect and very comfortable. The cottage is so close, literally a couple of minutes walk from 2 amazing pubs The Sun Inn where we dined out on the Friday Evening on the terrace, 4 of us and dogs allowed. The staff were very friendly and the food and atmosphere was so enjoyable. We went to The Marlborough on the Saturday and had a lovely Pub lunch there.. The car park is only a 5 minute walk through a scenic footpath along a large pond where we spotted a Heron and numerous wildlife. Dedham is a lovely village and the location of the cottage couldnt be better. It reminds me of the Cottage in the film The Holiday so cute. We would definitely stay again. Hide

It's a lovely wee 500yr old cottage in a very busy village that's visited by many tourists for its river. They've locked down the whole area for parking so that was a bigger issue to me than I expected. I think this is very new to the renting market and the homework has not been done by the owners. Gorgeous place for a couple, but not for a familyRead more. Response from holidaycottages.co.uk- Thank you for your review. We can confirm that your feedback has been discussed with the Homeowner.
