Surrounded by leafy lanes and a patchwork of woods and farmland, this idyllic holiday cottage is ideal for a pet-loving pair. Located within the rural village of St Wenn, it’s close to market town Wadebridge from where you can follow the spectacular Camel Trail walking and cycling route to history-rich Bodmin or, in the opposite direction, Padstow – each is 12 miles away. Padstow is renowned as a foodie destination but has plenty to suit those with an appetite for adventure too – book a fishing trip, join the South West Coast Path or take the ferry to Rock, reputedly home to more millionaires than anywhere else in Cornwall. Alternatively, a cross-country drive will take you to the Seven Bays coastline. Among the beautiful beaches here, the sweeping arc of Constantine Bay (14 miles) is among the county’s best sites for surfing and – because it’s west-facing – a beautiful spot for a sunset picnic.
Park directly outside and follow the path from the gate to your front door – the owners live close by but the cottage is perfectly private and self-contained. Once inside, you’ll find a light and spacious living room with lovely wooden flooring, a pair of plush sofas and a Smart TV. Soft lighting and a feature electric fire add to the cosy feel, while the selection of books and games will help you unwind. Move through to the kitchen/dining room and you’ll find all the essentials for effortless self-catering, including a coffee machine for after-dinner drinks. Once your day is done, stairs rise from the living room to a first-floor double bedroom which, positioned below the eaves, has a sanctuary-like ambience. There’s a clothes storage area on the landing and across from here, you’ll find a fresh-looking shower room.
Holiday here and you’ll have access to your own secluded seating area with views of the owner’s garden. The resident pets may put in an appearance so your dogs will be able to make new pals. Don't worry though, for those that want more space a short walk up the adjacent track opens into the old paddock where canine companions with a more delicate disposition can roam free. Enjoy walks further afield on the local footpaths, one of which leads to a pretty river. The owner offers accredited doggy day care by appointment leaving you free to get the most from your stay. There’s private parking for one car.
