Sprawling across four levels, this superb retreat has been imaginatively updated, stylishly furnished and beautifully decorated to make a fantastic base for up to eight guests seeking a tranquil holiday home within easy reach of Bath. The property lies close to the 15th-century St Thomas a Becket Church, the oldest church in Bath, with the Grade I-listed Widcombe Manor along the street and the beautiful Prior Park Gardens just a mile to the south, famous for the stunning Palladian Bridge. The centre of Bath is less than a mile north, with a wealth of landmarks and attractions including Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths, the Pump Room, the Assembly Rooms and the Jane Austen Centre. Bath also has several lovely open spaces including the Royal Crescent, Royal Victoria Park and Sydney Gardens.

Entering this beautiful property, the ground floor features a light and inviting lounge with ample seating and a TV, just across the hallway from an elegant, tastefully arranged dining room which is perfect for special occasions. Both rooms have high ceilings, smart cornicing, feature fireplaces and shuttered windows. Heading downstairs, the lower ground floor has a utility room with plenty of equipment alongside a fully equipped oak kitchen with granite worktops and ample storage space. A few steps lead from the kitchen down into a wonderfully spacious open-plan lounge/diner with windows along the length of the main wall looking out onto the garden. In addition, this characterful room has exposed stonework, a coal effect gas fire set in an original fireplace, and a double-height ceiling with exposed beams, alongside a TV, a DVD player, comfortable seating and a cheerful dining table. This floor also has a handy shower room. On the first floor, you will find a soothing main bathroom with a deep bathtub with a floor-standing tap and hand-held shower attachment. The property has four friendly, gorgeously decorated bedrooms with feature fireplaces and large sash windows. The first two bedrooms are on the first floor: a colourful bunk bedroom and a pretty king-size room with a corner wet room. Finally, head up to the second floor where the landing has a snug desk and chair which enjoys views out over the front of the house. The two final bedrooms are on this floor: a crisp and relaxing twin room which can be made up as a super-king-size room on request, alongside a spacious double room which has a handy corner wet room.

From the main living room, French doors open out into the delightful walled garden lined with mature shrubs, trees and wisteria. There’s a charming patio with outdoor furniture overlooking the lawn, with further seating in a hidden loggia towards the rear of the garden. One permit is available for on-street parking.

We had a great stay at the property. Lovely property, just a 15 min walk to Bath town centre. House was spacious, with plenty of storage. We had a lovely stay in the Chuch Street house in Widcombe, in Bath. The house was just as it looks in the photos and the property manager was very responsive when we had an issue with getting on the WiFi. Its a 15-20 minute walk into Bath but there are shops and restaurants just down the hill. Its a steep hill to walk back from Bath but easy to gRead moreet a taxi. Hide

My husband and I stayed here with our daughter and two grandsons in their 20s. We all thoroughly enjoyed the week (first in September). With the different age groups, it's a good base for people to go off and follow their own interests, We all did a walk together straight from the house round Claverton Down. Prior Park (NT) is also a short walk froRead morem the house. We oldies (81 and 88) declined to visit the Mary Shelley Museum Escape Room, and went instead to the No.1 Royal Crescent museum. Both venues declared excellent! Regarding the house, the availability of a free residents' parking permit could be made clearer. Some of the publicity gives the impression that there is no parking nearby and it's such a boon! Of course, you need to be reasonably mobile to navigate the different floors in the house. All in all, though, a super house! Hide
