Home to a long sandy beach overlooked by the sandstone cliffs of St Bees Head, the idyllic seaside village of St Bees is a haven for keen outdoors explorers and wildlife enthusiasts alike; the RSPB bird reserve with one of the largest colonies of seabirds on the west coast can be reached within 4.5 miles. Keen walkers can join the wonderful promenade along St Bees Beach, half a mile away, to begin Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk, and be rewarded with some magnificent views. Known for its dramatic landscapes, mountains and winding lakes, the wonderfully scenic Lake District National Park can be reached within 11.5 miles.
