Other must-see locations within 10 miles include Gunnerside, Muker, Keld and Thwaite, while Bowes –famous for its castle – is 14 miles. Take the effort out of your self-catering stay with a visits to the Tan Hill Inn – the highest pub in Britain – which is only 5.5 miles away. Even closer, another friendly local, the CB Inn, sits at the edge of the Pennine Way, close to the mid-point of Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast walk and adjacent to the Stang, one of the world’s most dramatic cycling climbs.
