Take a step back in time when you enter this splendid property in the centre of the market town of Pickering. Deceptively spacious, it sleeps seven guests across three bedrooms. Picturesque Pickering, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, has lots to offer, with a 12th-century castle, The Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life and remarkable medieval wall paintings in the parish church. Browse a great range of independent specialist shops, stock up on local produce and stop by one of the many eateries or traditional pubs. Take a ride on the delightful North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train at Pickering station. It runs 24 miles through the beautiful national park towards picture-postcard Whitby on the coast, calling at charming vintage stations along the way. Visit the breathtaking Hole of Horcum (8 miles), and head to the Dalby Forest for family fun in the treetops at Go Ape (6 miles).
This Grade II-listed cottage is an impressive example of a cruck-framed Yorkshire longhouse, traditionally built to house both family and cattle under one roof. The magnificent cruck frame is exposed up to the eaves in the spacious and atmospheric lounge, where plush sofas sit around the wood burner and TV. A cosy snug with seating, a period ornamental fireplace and a small TV provides a second inviting space for relaxing. The large dining room houses a wonderful Victorian cast iron range, with a ‘smoke window’. The welcoming kitchen has all the cooking utensils you might need, a super range cooker and a large farmhouse table where everyone can gather to share meals and make plans for tomorrow. Upstairs, beneath more exposed beams and sloping ceilings, discover three inviting bedrooms. These comprise a family room with a king-size bed and a single bed, a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. All are charmingly furnished and have their own en-suite bath or shower room. Please note that the cottage has some uneven floors and low doorways.
Patio doors from the lounge open to a small courtyard garden with seating, surrounded by climbing flowers and shrubbery. This sheltered suntrap is perfect for a peaceful morning tea or coffee. There is private parking for one car and a public parking area on the road outside (subject to availability).
