Avid walkers and keen explorers will be in their element while soaking up the best bits of Snowdonia National Park. The Mawddach Trail (1 mile) is an easy favourite, with flat paths and estuary views all the way to the coast. Continue along the trail and find yourselves at the market town of Dolgellau, 2.5 miles away, where you can enjoy some retail therapy or top up with a warming bowl of Welsh stew. Barmouth Beach (7 miles) is great when you're in the mood for a relaxed day of sea air and sandy toes. With traditional seaside arcades and donkey rides, it's an ideal spot for families to enjoy. If you've brought your paddleboards along for the journey, you can take to the waters at Llyn Tegid in Bala (20 miles), where mountain views make it a top spot to glide across the lake.

Step through the door of this attractive detached stone house, built in 1760, and immediately feel its rich Welsh heritage and warm welcome. The utility boot room greets you first and is ideal for kicking off walking boots and hanging up coats after a countryside adventure before wandering into the heart of the home. The living room has exposed stone walls, a crackling wood burner, and characterful touches invite you to slow down and unwind as you stream your favourite shows or plan your holiday activities. When hunger calls, head into the stylish kitchen/diner to cook up something special. Fully equipped for culinary creativity, this space is designed for both convenience and connection, plate up at the inviting window-side dining table, the perfect setting for dinner. As the evening draws in, choose from two charming bedrooms on the first floor. The spacious super-king-size bedroom (convertible to twins on request) boasts its own Smart TV, while the pretty double bedroom has a separate dressing room. In the morning, take your time soaking in the freestanding bath before starting another wonderful day in Snowdonia.

Outside, the enclosed garden offers a private wood-fired hot tub, a BBQ for sunny feasts, and a fire pit perfect for toasting marshmallows under the stars. There’s even secure storage for bikes and paddleboards and four private parking spaces to make coming and going a breeze.

Penmaen cottage is a lovely well-equipped cottage , which has been cleverly and beautifully renovated to combine character and comfort. The location was perfect, with the cottage in its own walled area, on a working farm- we saw our first little lamb of 2026! Just a short walk to the superb scenery of the Mawddach Trail, and just a 5 minute walk toRead more a pleasant Inn. There are a wide variety of activities available in the area - many with the backdrop of the majesty of the Eryn National Park. Our stay, despite being in a wet and windy week in February, helped to recharge the batteries, and didn't diminish our appreciation for the stunning scenery of the area. The owner was very helpful, friendly and good-humoured. Hide
