Enjoying a wonderful countryside spot on the outskirts of the quiet village of Gilsland, this quaint country cottage offers the ideal spot for couples and families to escape everyday life and explore the beautiful scenery of Cumbria and Northumberland. This area is a playground for keen outdoor explorers, with a myriad of tracks and trails to enjoy on foot or two wheels beginning from the doorstep. Positioned right where the tree line of Kielder Forest meets the rolling hills of Cumbria, light pollution is almost non‑existent. Step outside on a clear evening and you’ll be greeted by an astonishing canopy of stars—Milky Way arcs, shooting stars, and constellations dancing overhead. You’re literally on the doorstep of one of Europe’s largest Dark Sky Parks. Situated on Hadrian’s Wall on the border between Cumbria and Northumberland, the sleepy village of Gilsland, 2 miles away, offers some wonderful walks around the village and through its breathtaking scenery. Head to the pretty market town of Brampton, 10.5 miles away, or Haltwhistle which is the geographical centre of Britain, 7.5 miles away for a fabulous selection of independent shops, cafés and restaurants before exploring the surrounding footpaths and bridleways that weave through woods, fields and moorlands.

Boasting a wonderfully high ceiling and gorgeous exposed beams, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner that welcomes you into the heart of this home-from-home retains the rich heritage of the cottage amongst sumptuous contemporary touches that set the scene for pure relaxation. The stylish design of the kitchen will inspire you to get creative with your local produce, whilst the cosy lounge area provides the perfect spot to unwind weary walking muscles with underfloor heating to keep you cosy no matter the weather. At the end of a busy day’s adventure, the en-suite king-size bedroom and en-suite twin bedroom offer a haven of tranquillity to retire to, with neutral hues perfectly complementing the wild countryside views surrounding you. A lovely shower room completes this retreat, with water drawn from the natural underground supply which ensures sustainability and reduction on the environmental footprint, while still providing fresh clean water.

From sunrise to sunset, the open front patio offers the perfect peaceful place to dine alfresco or simply relax amongst your rolling countryside views, taking in the wild forest beyond. Outside, you’ll also find private parking for two cars. Please note that this property is part of a barn conversion comprising of 4 cottages, so dogs must be kept on a lead unless in the dog exercise area.

Property can be booked alongside House Martin for additional two guests.

We had a lovely time at two hoots cottage. Clean, comfortable and well appointed. Peaceful location but close enough that it was a great base for exploring so much. We visited Kielder Observatory and lake, multiple sites along Hadrian's wall, as well as the Lake District. Kitchen is well done and we were able to cook meals on the nights we didnt eaRead moret out. Beds very comfortable and great showers. Hosts are lovely and extremely thoughtful. We didnt manage to see all the area has to offer in our week and would definitely stay at two hoots again. Hide
