Sleeping four guests, it is perfect for a family or friends planning to explore the unspoiled landscape of mountains and countryside. The cottage is just 0.5 miles from the pretty village of Llangynidr in the valley of the River Usk, which has a shop, a selection of eateries − including a welcoming canal-side country pub − and a fine, 17th-century stone bridge. The small market town of Crickhowell (5 miles) is known for its excellent independent shops and local produce. Visit the Information Centre here for guides to mountain and riverside paths, or hire narrowboats, canoes and even a cycle boat at nearby Llangattock Wharf for a peaceful trip down the canal. Open the impressive, wooden front door leading directly into the light and spacious lounge/diner to find an array of beautiful period features. The room boasts large sash windows, a wealth of original beams and exposed stonework, including a remarkable feature section of old stone stairs. Comfortable sofas and easy chairs sit before a large wood burner inside the splendid chimney breast, and there's an elegant wooden dining table for holiday mealtimes. Next door, the cosy snug houses a Smart TV and a sumptuous L-shaped sofa, plus an armchair. The bright, well-fitted kitchen has a country-style breakfast table for you to enjoy your morning coffee around. A staircase heads up to a family bathroom, with a shower over the bath and two appealing bedrooms, each dressed in soft shades and with wonderful views. The king-size features a delightful vintage dressing table and stool, while the zip-and-link super-king-size (can be made into a twin on request at time of booking) has a pretty velvet chair.

Outside, the whitewashed, private patio houses outdoor furniture, ideal for al fresco dining and stargazing on clear nights in this area of low light pollution. There is private parking for two cars.

We had a fantastic stay at the beautiful Lower Lock Cottage. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable and welcoming stay, and the location is just incredible! Right next to the canal in a lovely, peaceful village, and only a few minutes from the pub and from the local shop/cafe, whilst still keeping it's rural charm. We had an excellent stay. The cottage is lovely, cosy but spacious with everything you could need, the snug with television is a real treat. This is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in, together with the tasty morsels on our arrival and really comfortable beds. The lock cottage setting was really quiet and relaxing with the sheep wandering nearby and the scenery very tempting for walking in. The kitchen had all the utensil goodies we needed and found the unusual two loungRead morees beneficial as one of our party had to work part-time. We had an exciting walk along the River Usk nearby path, but not for the faint-hearted, and ended up at the tasty Walnut Tree Cafe for afternoon teas. The canal path was ideal for watching the adventurous, and sometimes very inexperienced, attempting the 5 locks in quick succession! Footpaths are part of our family exploratory needs so we managed to reach the Taly-Bont reservoirs and other sites without using the car. Anne, the owner, recommended a visit to the Llangynidr Agricutural Show and it was marvellous entertainment. Hide

Lovely cottage in a prime (to me) location. Clean, spacious and well appointed. Good parking for two cars, a shop within walking distance and first class pub/restaurant almost on the door step. I will go again.
