An enchanting retreat in an AONB within scenic grounds near Altarnun, this delightful hideaway nestles on the edge of beautiful Bodmin Moor- famous for it's exceptional dark skies. Set in serene Cornish surroundings, made famous by the author Daphne du Maurier in her novel Jamaica Inn, it enjoys beautiful views beneath starry skies. Sleeping four guests, the private, two-bedroom, dog-friendly retreat sits in 2-acre grounds where the owners also live and guests may wish to sample their fresh eggs, vegetables and fruit. Stroll 0.5 miles to the village shop or to have afternoon tea or morning coffee. A renowned pub is just 1 mile away. Picture-postcard Bossiney Cove, where you can pick up the South West Coast Path, is a 12-mile drive, and magnificent Widemouth Bay, popular for swimming and surfing, is 12 miles from the cottage. For a year-round dog friendly beach with great amenities, Black Rock Beach is just 13 miles away. Visit fascinating Tintagel, where many of the legends of King Arthur are said to have taken place, also only 11 miles away.

Enter this attractive, single-storey cottage to find it offers a beautiful blend of the old and the new. Ancient granite and Blue Elvan stone walls still tell the tales of cattle and farming from a bygone era, while contemporary features, such as excellent insulation, double-glazing and heating, ensure high levels of modern-day comfort. Admire the owner’s artwork that has been inspired by the magical surroundings and now hangs on the walls. Find everything you need here to ensure an idyllic Cornish stay. At the heart of the cottage is a light-filled, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, where you can unwind on the soft seating as you gaze out over the woodland, play a handmade game with the children or watch the Smart TV. Prepare fresh eggs from your welcome pack with vegetables and fruit grown on the site over in the well-equipped kitchen area. Dine together at the table and linger here over a bottle of wine or cup of fresh coffee from the machine. When you are ready to turn in for the night, amble off down the corridor to enjoy a refreshing shower in the family shower room and then a great night’s sleep. The double bedroom features an award-winning Nectar divan bed, with drawers, while the bunk bedroom encompasses a sturdy triple sleeper, with a double bed and drawers below and single above. Sumptuous, high-quality towels and bed linen are provided for guests sleeping in both rooms.

Spill out into the enclosed garden to savour the tranquillity and cook out on the BBQ under the stars. Play games with your canine companions out here too. The Old Cattle Shed was comfortable, quiet and tastefully decorated. It was lovely to arrive to our welcome pack which was full of all things tasty to eat and drink, and of exceptional quality. The Old Cattle Shed was in a nice quiet location with an enclosed garden for our dogs to play in with no fear of escape. The Doggie Spa, which they used, waRead mores an added bonus. Jenny and Roger our hosts were lovely. They welcomed us on arrival and then left us to enjoy our stay. Can not thank them enough for making us feel so welcome. We were far enough away to feel emersed in the country, but near enough to visit places like Boscastle, Bude and Padstow, and plenty more. So if you fancy a rural retreat The Old Cattle Shed is ideal. Hide

What a beautiful property fitted out to the highest standard. Jenny and Roger were the perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome and a cream tea on arrival was perfect after a long journey. We honestly couldn't have wished for more from our holiday. The location was brilliant for visiting the north coast of Cornwall and its many dog friendly beacRead morehes and also for beautiful walks on Bodmin Moor. Highly recommended - next time we are in Cornwall we will, without a doubt, be staying at The Old Cattle Shed again. Hide

The cottage was an excellent experience, the highest of amenities, and the best of equipment. The owners have gone above and beyond in the design and layout. From the freshly baked scones to home farmed eggs, the quality of the produce was super. Quiet and secluded, close to some great pubs and Cornish attractions, it is an ideal location. We (2 adults, child & dog) spent an amazing weekend at the Old Cattle Shed and were totally blown away by the attention to detail and luxury of the accommodation. A fantastically well equipped kitchen and property in general. The garden really is totally dog friendly with a fully secure perimeter and 6ft fencing all around. We visited with our escaRead morepe artist beagle and had absolutely no concerns with allowing him to relax in the garden. We were so grateful to Jenny & Roger for all the extras they provided - gorgeous homemade scones complete with jam and clotted cream, Prosecco and beer were just a few of the many highlights. It was also such a lovely touch that the artwork throughout the property is all Jennys own work, it really added so much to our stay. The location of the property is beautifully secluded but we found it was ideal for exploring the likes of Bodmin Moor, Boscastle, Crackington Haven, Trebaewith Strand and Polzeath slightly further away. Jenny and Roger were the perfect hosts and our only complaint was that we didnt book for a longer stay - we really do hope we will be back one day! We have no doubt that this property will become extremely popular and this will be testament to what a fantastic stay we had. There are too many positives to list them all individually but you are really in for a wonderful break if you book this property. Thank you Jenny and Roger for a wonderful weekend that the whole family has enjoyed so so much! Hide
