This historic and elegant townhouse sleeping six guests across three bedrooms is perfect for a family or group of friends planning to explore the magnificent landscapes of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. The house is set on a very quiet and peaceful street close to the centre of Dolgellau, a pretty market town set beneath the mighty Cader Iris mountain, with bustling independent shops, eateries and pubs. Follow the scenic Mawddach Trail alongside the river of the same name, and walk across the historic toll bridge at Penmaenpool (2 miles) for spectacular views of the Mawddach Estuary. Coed Y Brenin (7.5 miles) boasts thrilling mountain bike and walking trails, while you can feel the sand between your toes at golden beaches in Fairbourne and Barmouth (both within 9 miles). Climb aboard the charming vintage steam train at Fairbourne for a short journey to the ferry that takes you across to Barmouth Harbour. Or just walk straight from the front door up to quiet woodland trails just to the south of Dolgellau.

This fascinating house is delightfully furnished throughout with a backdrop of stone walls and original beams. On the ground floor, find a stylish and well-appointed kitchen with a breakfast table and chairs, while a fine inglenook fireplace housing a wood burner takes pride of place in the spacious dining room. Two armchairs are positioned around the fireplace, and opposite, a six-seater traditional farmhouse dining table is the perfect spot for social evenings in. The first-floor layout comprises a double master bedroom, a twin room (which can be made into a super-king-size), and family bathroom. The double room is a beautiful space with a feature fireplace set into the exposed stone walls and a charming rocking chair. At the rear of the room, a stable door opens onto the decked balcony overlooking the garden. The cosy second bedroom has twin single beds (or can be made up into a super-king-size) with period furniture. The main bathroom is beautifully fitted, with a shower over the bath. The second floor was originally a weaving loft, now used as a superb sitting room with a dramatic vaulted ceiling, tall windows, and a wood burner inside an impressive stone fireplace. Relax on sumptuous sofas in front of the Smart TV or play a game of table football. Also on this level is a well-equipped shower room. Continuing up the stairs to the mezzanine floor, overlooking the sitting room, the third bedroom has a master super-king-size bed (that can be converted to twins on request), a desk and chest of drawers. The room is light and airy with electric Velux windows and blinds but is also beautifully cosy on winter evenings.

Outside, a decked terrace overlooks the enclosed and quiet gravelled garden to the rear complete with a hosepipe for washing off muddy gear and a covered area underneath the decked terrace. Guests will also find an incredibly useful utility room with a washing machine, dryer and storage space for outdoor equipment. The property includes a parking permit for the nearby public car park, just 150 metres from the property. The car park includes four 50kW electric car chargers.

Probably the best holiday house in Dolgellau. Accept some compromises with parking and layout (3 stories) for the amazing location, comfort and style of Hope House. Perfectly located for an easy cycle into Barmouth or a hike up Cadair Idris. Everything is on your doorstep so you can forget about your car. Great house in great town.

We loved Hope House. Clean, comfortable, up to date yet characterful. We didnt realise the living room was upstairs when we booked - but absolutely loved this room with its high ceilings and wood burner. The kitchen is very well equipped kitchen and parking is a few minutes walk away. I would absolutely come back here.
