Beautiful house in a great location. The attention to detail is amazing. The house was dressed for Christmas with a wreath at the door, garlands and a tree. It gave the house a wonderful atmosphere a special place to spend New Year. The owners left a very generous hamper with local treats. Plenty of space for our family and the open plan kitchen/ Read morediner/ lounge made the cooks feel a part of the family. The furniture and style of the house is wonderful and luxurious. Lots of hot water and added extras like quality, local toiletries provided. It was nice to stay somewhere with a plentiful supply of dishwasher tabs and bin bags etc. Parking for our car at the front of the house and extra parking at the racecourse ( for a fee ) The village is lovely and we didnt need to venture far with Levens Hall and Sizergh close by. Thank you for a wonderful stay and making our New Year special. Hide

PARKING There is no parking. There is a tiny cobbled strip outside the house on the main street behind a double yellow line. If you have a Micro-car you might get away with it, but for a normal sized car or bigger you will be on the double yellows. We were warned by a local that people regularly got parking tickets in the space. Also, the parkRead moreing is NOT private - it is on street parking, and as Cartmel is so popular and has so little parking, there were regularly other cars parked there. We parked at the Race Course (lots of parking) about 5 minutes walk from the house @ about 10 a night. HEATING AND HOT WATER This house is cold, which is to be expected I guess given it is an ancient character property, but the heating is barely adequate. We arrived on a day that was 8 degrees C outside, and the house was cold, and took quite a few hours to warm up (we went to the pob). Even then it was barely adequate The fire is ornamental, so you are relying on the central heating which is not up to the job. Hot water the same. The house is advertised as suitable for 8 people. We had six and as soon as a couple of people had had baths there was no hot water left. SIZE There is not enough seating for eight adults. The listing says "capacious living space". It is not. It is "Cozy" at best, with very low ceilings (if you are six foot or more expect to be stooped for the entire stay, and to bang your head several times). LOCATION The location is amazing. Bang in the centre of Cartmel. "Reply from holidaycottages.co.uk - Thank you for your detailed feedback, we really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Just to clarify a few points: there is private parking directly outside the property, large enough to accommodate a full-size car, and a sign is currently being made to make this clearer for guests. The fire in the living area is not just ornamental, it also functions as a heater. Additionally, the ground floor benefits from underfloor heating, which helps keep the space warm and comfortable. There is also ample seating in the living space to enjoy the area." Hide
