Property code: OC-SZ295

Escape to this Lakeland sanctuary, where two guests and their faithful, furry friend can lose themselves in the beauty of their surroundings. Find the one-bedroom cottage, which shares a garden with its neighbour, is an idyllic base from which to go hiking and cycling. Make the 2-mile walk down to impressive Aira Force, then catch one of the famous Ullswater steamers. Disembark in Pooley Bridge for a cup of tea and slice of cake. To browse in independent shops, boutiques and market stalls, head to Keswick or Penrith, both about 11 miles away. Find cafes, restaurants and pubs in both lively hubs: hire a boat on Derwentwater from Keswick and see the castle ruins in Penrith.

Wander into this charming cottage from the back and find yourselves in the light-filled lounge/diner, with its sloping ceilings. Settle down on the comfortable seating to watch TV or perhaps a DVD, chosen from the collection here. Help yourself to a book from the shelves if you prefer. Head through into the kitchen to prepare dinner with the fresh, local produce you have found on your trips out. The kitchen has an electric oven and halogen hobs, microwave and fridge. Carry dinner through to eat together at the table. As night falls, make your way through to the bright bedroom, with its king-size, four-poster bed and en-suite bathroom, which comes with a bath, with handheld shower, WC and handbasin.

Bask out in the sunshine on spring and summer days in the garden, which has a summer house and is shared with another cottage. Look out for wildlife and take in the views. There is parking at the cottage.

Kirksty Brow is wonderful. This was our second stay here and we plan to go again. It is small and quirky but extremely cosy and comfortable with lovely hot baths. Above all its location on the edge of fields and moors and with a row of trees in front of it means it is wonderful for birds. In the course of one sunny breakfast at the table outsideRead more the front door the Merlin birdsong app heard 30 species, ranging from an indefatigable songthrush and all the common songbirds to nuthatch, stonechat, siskin, goldcrest, white wagtail, curlew, meadow pippit, buzzard, ring ouzel, and raven. Positives: - Excellent location, with beautiful walks around lakes and fells just a few minutes drive away. - The heating came on automatically each morning and evening, keeping the house warm, even during a stormy night. - Plenty of towels were provided, including extras in the wardrobe and drawers. Negatives: - The bed was advertised as kiRead moreng size but was actually only a double. - Sloped ceilings throughout significantly reduce headroom. This is especially inconvenient in the bathroom, bedroom and living room. If you're a bloke, you cannot stand up to wee in the toilet without banging your head on the sloped ceiling. - No cold water supply in the bathroom sink. - Very poor water pressure in the shower, making it difficult to wash properly. Very minimal water to start with, which very quickly turns into droplets. Be prepared to not be able to clean yourself during your stay and bring lots of antiperspirant and perfume! - No designated space to hang coats or store shoes/boots. - Carpets and walls were stained and appeared unclean. - Some plug sockets felt loose and potentially unsafe, with extension leads connected to other extension leads. - Several lamps were broken, with exposed wires and sockets, posing a safety risk. I unplugged them all and placed them under the dresser table. I would recommend to not use them to avoid an electric shock. - Carpets were old and difficult to clean, contributing to their condition. - Kitchenware (plates, bowls, pans, pots, cups, glasses, and cutlery) was greasy and not properly cleaned. - Cooking equipment was of poor quality, with food sticking badly to pans, making even simple meals (e.g. Omelette) difficult to prepare. The cottage was perfect for my needs. A couple of days away to decompress, just me and the dog. There's a great walk across the fell from the front door. The cottage needs updating, its not so much as cozy and romantic as it is small and basic. The kitchen is tiny, old fashioned, minimal cutlery and crockery. The bath takes ages to fill up and not really big enough for anyone over 5 foot. No proper shower. Two arm chairs, so cant exactly snuggle up on the couch and watch a film in the evening. Love the situation and peaceful environment and the cozy was of the property. Downsides are that its all very dated and needs bringing up to a better standard which wouldnt be that expensive either.

Its in a great location if you want off the beaten track but it is so encrusted with dirt and has been neglected for so long that until its been thoroughly cleaned, decorated and the outside area made presentable look elsewhere. Note one star for cleanliness, Id have given it zero if I could.

The skylight windows need a pole with a hook to enable opening of blinds and windows. The cottage needs a general face-lift and a little tlc! The location is excellent, in a beautiful area and good for access to the whole Lake District. Please update/upgrade the potentially lovely, though bijou cottage.
