At a glance

  • Located in idyllic Burnham Deepdale, a timeless village on the Norfolk Coast Path on the edge of the Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve
  • Adjacent to Brancaster, with its epic sweep of pristine sand and unspoilt dunes
  • A short ferry ride from the stark beauty of Scolt Head Island – a bird lover’s paradise (operational during summer months only)
Property code: OC-KT045

This gem of a property may be in a quiet North Norfolk village, but that doesn’t mean that there’s little to do in Burnham Deepdale. A gallery, café and boutique shops create a classy ambience, with a bike hire outlet offering the chance to get out and explore this gorgeous region further. Within walking distance is the adjacent village of Brancaster Staithe – its two pubs are renowned for their superb food and ales – or pick up the Norfolk Coastal Path to spend a day on Brancaster beach. During Summer months departing from Burnham Overy Staithe, a short distance from the property is a ferry to Scolt Head Island, an offshore sand barrier offering beach, dunes, terrific birdlife – including a world-renowned tern population – and a wonderful sense of seclusion.

You enter the property from the rear garden into the oak-floored hallway, from where you can access the bright, double-aspect lounge. Sea grass flooring (under-heated, of course) and a wood burner ensure warmth even on the coldest of evenings, while two large sofa's and an armchair are deep enough to sink into after a day’s sightseeing. The large kitchen/diner really is something – stone flooring, a conservatory-style dining area overlooking the garden and a table seating up to six make this a naturally convivial space. Kitchen facilities include an electric double oven, hob, large fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher, while a utility room off the kitchen is home to washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a separate WC on the ground floor. The second-floor accommodation includes three beautifully furnished bedrooms: one master king-size with en-suite shower room and WC and another king-size both with distant sea views and a spacious twin. The bathroom contains a bath with overhead shower, hand basin and WC.

Outside space comprises a small border garden at the front, while the rear garden – mainly lawn and a paved patio – is fully enclosed by a wall. A BBQ offers ample opportunity for dining alfresco. There is off-road parking for two cars.

  • 3 bedrooms - 2 king size and 1 twin
  • 2 bathrooms: 1 with bath, shower over the bath and WC, 1 en-suite with shower and WC, 1 separate WC (downstairs)
  • Kitchen with electric double oven, induction hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher
  • Utility with washing machine and tumble dryer
  • Travel cot and highchair provided
  • Wood burner in lounge (first basket of logs provided Oct - Mar)
  • Smart TV/DVD in the lounge
  • Towels included
  • Hairdryer
  • Enclosed, private walled garden with patio, lawn table with chairs and BBQ
  • Private off-road parking for 2 cars
  • Shop 0.2 miles, pub 0.4 miles, beach 3 miles

The lounge was comfortable and the log burner worked really well on the one night we needed a fire. The kitchen cupboard door handles all felt like they need a really good clean and the outside furniture I had to give a good clean before we could sit outside. I also think the master bedroom furniture was basic to say the least and the extra quiltsRead more just stuffed in the walk In wardrobe along with the worst mismatch of odd hangers was not a good look. Compass Cottage is fabulous! Super clean, comfortably plush, easy access inside and outside, good lighting, very warm and welcoming after a breezy walk on Brancaster beach. We love this part of Norfolk, the cottage just added to the whole holiday experience, there are no down sides and we have booked for next year already, enough said!
