The 250 year old gate lodge is conveniently situated on the A352 which is the main access route between the riverside Saxon market town of Wareham and villages of Bovington and Wool, home to some of Dorset’s much loved attractions from the Tank Museum to Monkey World. This is a wonderful opportunity to stay in this charming “Hansel and Gretel” style cottage. Located just off the Wareham to Wool road it is an ideal retreat for an artist/writer to hide away and be creative, as it is located within 2.5 acres of woodland. If it’s more a romantic getaway you’re looking for, then look no further. It will not disappoint you with many a country pub or restaurant nearby that will embellish your taste buds.

A pretty trellis porch welcomes you to the gothic front door of this enchanting cottage. Beyond the entrance hall you will find yourself in the dining room with table and chairs for everyone to sit together. Flagstone flooring and exposed beams are throughout the cottage. Head round the corner into the sitting room which is equally as charming and cosy up whilst enjoying some evening TV. The kitchen comes equipped with electric oven and hob, microwave and Smeg fridge. There is a garden room that leads off the kitchen boasting under floor heating and a stable door leading onto the garden terrace. The bathroom with slipper bath and rain forest over bath shower and WC completes the ground floor. Make your way up the steep cottage staircase to the first floor where you will find the master bedroom with double bed and en suite WC, across the landing a twin room. Both bedrooms are complete with built in storage offering you plenty of space for your holiday wardrobe.

Set in over 2 acres of grounds and Bluebell Woodland, that’s lead down to a stream, there's so much space to enjoy here. An attractive Purbeck stone terrace wraps sympathetically around the rear of the property.  Ample parking on the private driveway and under cover in the high car barn ideal for boats

This is our second visit to the most beautiful Lodge. The location is perfect for visiting lots and lots of Dorset attractions. Comfort and equipment is spot on. We were so lucky to see Sika doe deers with their fawns, tawny owl and fox.

We stayed in the cottage for a week and enjoyed the general location. The cottage was clean and comfy and very well equipped, with a lovely welcome pack and wildlife on your doorstep every morning. The only downside was proximity to the road . We live on an A class road but hadn't realised how close the cottage was to the main Wareham road approx 1Read more5 - 20 yards away. magical place ,pity it has a lot of road noise but this did not disturb our sleep. the woodland and wild garden are absolutely enchanting.the inside of the cottage is warm and cosy lovely to come back to after a day out.

We loved staying at Stockford Lodge. The quirkiness of the cottage, made it wonderful stay. There is so much to see and do in the immediate area. We had Sika deer in the garden every night, which were wonderful to see up close. Thank you.

This is a beautifully presented cottage with wonderful surroundings. Seeing the Sika deer was incredible - we saw 14 all at once in the back garden grazing on the carrots we'd put out for them. It's also very close to lots of attractions like the tank museum, monkey world, and its not far to get to the sea with Weymouth 25 mins away. We will definiRead moretely be going back again. Hide

We were pleased with the cottage overall as it had so many little extras which was lovely, for instance a welcome pack with butter,bread,milk,cheese and eggs.There was a small dishwasher which was a bonus and beautiful smell throughout the property.We didnt find the bed terribly comfortable but we are both 65 plus.You can hear the road noise as cloRead morese to the main road but it dampened our spirits.The cottage is close to what we wanted to see and do and lived up to our expectations in terms of quaintness. We thoroughly enjoyed our family Christmas at the lodge. The owners went out of their way to make it as magical as possible for our two children who are big Harry Potter fans. The lodge was so cosy and warm- and was decorated so beautifully for Christmas.

Our holiday was perfect. The Lodge is beautiful cosy, spotlessly clean with everything you may need. Saw Sika deer every day worth getting up at 5-6am and watching them munching on the pumpkins and then disappearing showing their heart shape bottom into the woodland, also in the evening with the security lights coming on a joy to see them. One of the most beautiful experiences of my life. The Cottage is magical, everything is thought out down to the smallest detail, nothing is left to chance. Warm and welcoming, a true dream. I'll definitely be back for Christmas.

A very pleasant cottage well maintained and equipped. Lots of places to visit within easy travel distance. We kept expecting Red Riding Hood to appear from the trees but all we got was visits from the Sika Deer population. Well worth visiting and staying for at least a week but preferably longer.

We had a lovely stay at this cozy little cottage. Very close to Monkey World and The Tank Museum which was worth a visit. Kitchen was very well equipped and there was private parking on site. The cottage is set in woodlands which are visited every morning and evening by the beautiful Sika deer.

Charming cottage, but road noise can be a bit of a problem. The wood is in need of a tidying. Lovely area and well located for getting around this area. Just needs a bit more ground care to bring this place into a cosy cottage for todays needs.

Unique cottage, magical setting, the deer visited every morning and evening. We loved our stay, like living in a Hobbit House a great experience, would love to revisit. The only slight drawback is it is close to a main road but that didn't disturb at night.

A cottage straight out of a fairy tale! We saw deer right outside the windows morning and evening. The children loved exploring the woods, den building and crossing the stream. The cottage was cosy, well-equipped and warm.

My sister and I had the most amazing stay at this magical cottage! Everything about it was enchantingthe cozy, witchy vibe of the cottage, the serene forest setting, and the frequent visits from deer and squirrels. It felt like stepping into a fairytale. This is a lovely character cottage, it is right next to the road but it did not disturb our stay. We saw deer in the garden everyday which was a bonus. The location is great as it is close to a number of attractions. The cottage itself was warm and cosy. We had a lovely stay.

Oh, what a joy. The first view of the cottage and then walking through the front door.we were in heaven.such a relaxing place and peaceful. The surrounding woodland and the visits from the dear, was amazing. Even got up to see them on their early morning visits, 4 am. So central to visiting the great places near by. This was a picturesque cottage in a perfect location for exploring the local area. The grounds were fabulous for exploring as well. The kitchen was well equipped and lots of little thoughtful touches that made it a wonderful place to stay.

The Cottage was a beautiful base to explore the Dorset Coastline. There are so many details in and outside the cottage and wonderfully done. I enjoyed looking at the paintings/artworks around the cottage that also gave reference to it's history. The woods were magical. A young deer appeared one night and this vision was delightful.

The cottage is so beautiful and the surrounding grounds equally lovely. We loved staying in it and seeing the deer. Though the cottage is small, it had everything we needed. The cottage itself gets vey little sunlight, but the week was so hot that it was a blessing for us!
