A simply magnificent, turreted, Edwardian mansion, this splendid Scottish retreat is set in extensive, picturesque grounds in the beautiful borderlands above the River Tweed. Sleeping 14 guests, the striking retreat, which was designed by renowned Glasgow architect John James Burnett, is a superb option for an extended family celebration or a special getaway with friends. Complete with a state-of-the-art cinema room, capacious catering kitchen, gym, open fires and gorgeous walled garden, it makes a heavenly base at any time of year. With acres of shared estate park and woodland, the handsome hideaway is 6 miles from both Galashiels and Selkirk, with their shops and eateries, and 8 miles from Melrose, with its 12th-century abbey ruins. Keen walks might like to follow a section of the Southern Upland Way, which runs through the estate, while eager anglers can fish for salmon and trout right on their doorstep in the River Tweed.

Wander inside this wonderful retreat to find elegant accommodation with an abundance of exquisite features and beautifully proportioned, luxurious rooms for you all to spread out into and enjoy. Leave your outerwear in the entrance hall, where there is a cloakroom and two WCs, and amble on into the reception hall, with its gorgeous, original panelling and parquet flooring. Choose to unwind together before a crackling open fire in the drawing room, library, morning room or dining room. Play the baby grand in the drawing room, set up a board game in the library, watch the Smart TV in the morning room or sit down to a feast in the dining room, playing music through the Alexa. The butler’s pantry, with its dumb waiter to the catering kitchen below, is conveniently located next to the dining room. The well-equipped kitchen/diner, where there is another Smart TV, is also close by. Follow the stairs down to the lower ground floor to find the catering kitchen, with its extensive, high-specification fixtures and fittings, as well as the fully equipped gym, table tennis room and laundry room. The exciting cinema room, where you can have fun with the 86” cinema screen and surround sound and three-quarter-size snooker table, is also here, together with a study, lobby and WC, plus a playroom, with toys for the younger members of your party to enjoy. Ascend the handsome staircase to the first floor where four of your sumptuous bedrooms are set around a galleried landing. These include a king size, with an en-suite shower room, and three super-king-sizes, one with a seating area, dressing room and en-suite bathroom, with a freestanding roll-top bath and a shower, and another with a seating area and en-suite shower room. A third has a four-poster bed and en-suite bathroom, plus an adjoining bedroom with truckle beds that can be made up as a twin for children. A family room, with a super-king-size zip-and-link bed, that can also be arranged as singles by prior agreement, and two additional single beds, is on the floor above, together with a twin bedroom, with 1-metre wide beds. A family bathroom and a family shower room are also up here and there is an Alexa Smart Speaker to enable you to play throughout the main part of the house.

While away sunny days in the delightful, fully enclosed walled garden of approximately two acres in size. This encompasses enchanting, wildflower gardens, as well as formal areas, extensive lawns and the romantic ruins of an old house. Dine and cook out on the BBQ on the elegant terrace. Play badminton on the site of an Edwardian tennis court and wander the acres of park and woodland to your heart’s content, carefully avoiding fields where there is stock grazing. Guests also have access to a garage where they can store bicycles, golf clubs, fishing rods and other outdoor equipment. There is ample parking at the property too.
