Located in the Western Lakeland village of Waberthwaite, this three-bedroom abode is ideal for an adventurous party of six. Super-pet-friendly, it’s surrounded by a patchwork of farmland and natural landscapes, close to a captivating church that’s been beside the tidal River Esk since at least the 13th century. A welcoming village inn takes the effort out of any self-catering stay, but for a full taste of local life, visit the family butchers just across the road from the cottage, famous for its fine range of bacon and traditional Cumberland Sausage. Make time to explore the Eskdale, Duddon and Wasdale valleys. Thrill-seekers can take on the challenge of Scafell Pike or test their motoring mettle on the Hardknott Pass; the Roman Fort here has well-marked remains and offers spectacular views as far as the Isle of Man. For more leisurely days out, Ravenglass, 4 miles north, is a coastal hamlet within the Lake District National Park and home to the narrow gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Nearby Muncaster Castle has gorgeous gardens plus the Hawk and Owl Centre where you can watch awe-inspiring flying displays.

Stone-built and skilfully converted, this former barn offers the perfect blend of character, comfort and convenience. It has light, bright interiors that are highlighted by the warm hues of wooden beams and pretty picture windows. The hub of any holiday here is the open-plan living space, where an adjacent utility area complements a contemporary kitchen. The traditional dining suite sits before a large window with garden views and, beyond, the lounge area offers a choice of sofas and seating. A Smart TV allows you to keep up with your favourite films and box sets, and you’ll have an initial supply of logs to get the wood burner glowing. When it’s time for bed, the master suite is on the ground floor. Complete with a heavily beamed ceiling, it has a king-sized bed and an en-suite shower room with some limited headroom. The remaining two bedrooms are on the upper floor; two cosy doubles. A family bathroom completes the first-floor layout.

For a breath of fresh country air, step out into the cottage-style garden which has a lawn, patio and furniture. South-facing, it’s the perfect place to unwind and watch as the sun passes slowly overhead. There is private parking for two to three cars.

Unfortunately this property was a disappointment because of the dog situation and not private sitting having a meal only to have children walking straight past the window. Then opening the door to be greeted by numerous chickens wandering around. Also left to go get some shopping and returned to be informed by my son who stayed in that someone haRead mored rocked up and cut the grass .Why would you do that when someone has paid money to rent the place for the week. surely it should of been done prior to us arriving. We left early because it was anything but a relaxing stay if you sit out on the paved area all you can hear is some kind of generator whirring which is hidden in the rockery/plants,or what sounded like gun fire in the distance not what we had envisioned at all Hide
