For a historical break in the stunning Perthshire countryside, stay at this charming two-bedroom holiday home. It’s perfectly positioned between the serene River Tay and the lush Hermitage Forest, with an abundance of gorgeous scenery and walking trails all around. It’s ideal for small families or couples, and located just 1 mile from Dunkeld and Birnam, one of Scotland’s best-preserved historic towns. Visit the cathedral, have a mosey around various galleries and independent shops or perhaps discover the town’s vibrant arts and music scene. The property has a truly fascinating history, once belonging to Charles MacIntosh, a renowned local and known as the 'Perthshire Naturalist' for his knowledge on funghi and he is believed to have inspired the character of Mr McGregor in Peter Rabbit. Beatrix Potter spent childhood summers at nearby Dalguise House, where Scotland’s enchanting landscapes sparked her creativity, ultimately leading to the birth of Peter Rabbit. To discover these stunning landscapes for yourself, head up to Craigvinean Forest (1 mile), with scenic routes to the local totem pole and Pine Cone Point (1.5 miles). Thanks to the railway station 1 mile away, Edinburgh and Glasgow are also accessible for urban day trips.

As you arrive at this modernised retreat, you’ll pass through a timber-clad entrance porch, carefully restored to reflect the original structure lost in the 1960s. The open-plan living area is a lovely space for relaxing, with elegant wooden flooring, a TV, a wood burner and garden access. Across from the kitchen, which has chic black units and a handy breakfast bar, you'll find a cosy dining area and a handy utility room leading to the stylish shower room with a walk-in shower and WC. The family bathroom is also located downstairs and completes the ground floor. Upstairs, in the eaves, you’ll have a beautifully presented twin bedroom and a luxurious king-size room, both with skylights allowing in plenty of daylight.

In good weather, make the most of the large front garden which includes a seating area and a fire pit. Relax into leisurely evenings under the stars and peaceful morning coffees as the sun rises. Private parking for 1 car.

We had a fantastic stay. The whole cottage has been tastefully done, with attention to detail and a very high quality finish throughout. It was spotlessly clean, and very well equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable stay.

Superb cottage, beautifully decorated with an extremely well stocked kitchen - all the utensils you need for easy self-catering! Also loved that it was walking distance from the Hermitage and Dunkeld, a real bonus for our springer spaniel too! Would definitely recommend!
