For a historical break in the stunning Perthshire countryside, stay at this comfortable two-bedroom cottage just outside Dunkeld. Positioned between the River Tay and the Hermitage Forest, it offers gorgeous scenery and walking trails all around making it ideal for families or couples. Located just a 15 minute walk from Dunkeld where you'll find an abundance of independent shops, cafe's and restaurants.  One of Scotland’s best-preserved historic towns. Visit the cathedral, have a mosey around various galleries and independent shops or perhaps discover the town’s vibrant arts and music scene. The property also has a fascinating history.  It once belonged to Charles MacIntosh, a renowned local known as the 'Perthshire Naturalist' for his knowledge on funghi.  He is believed to have inspired the character of Mr McGregor in Peter Rabbit after becoming friends with Beatrix Potter who spent childhood summers at nearby Dalguise House, where Scotland’s enchanting landscapes sparked her creativity, You can discover these landscapes for yourself by exploring the hermitage, walking to Pine Cone Point or strolling along the River Tay.  Head up to Craigvinean Forest (1 mile), with scenic routes to the local totem pole and Pine Cone Point (1.5 miles). Thanks to the railway station in Birnam just one mile away, Edinburgh and Glasgow are also accessible for urban day trips.

As you arrive at this modernised retreat, you’ll pass through a timber-clad entrance porch, carefully restored to reflect the original structure lost in the 1960s. The open-plan living area is a lovely space for relaxing, with comfy sofas a wood burner, TV and garden access.  The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to make a delicious meal and it includes a spacious breakfast bar with seating for two.  Just above in a timber-clad ook, is a cosy dining area that was carefully restored to reflect the washer and dryer that leads to a shower room with a walk-in shower and WC.  The family bathroom with bath, shower and WC is located at the bottom of the stairs.  Upstairs, in the eaves, you’ll find a spacious twin bedroom and a luxurious king-size room, both featuring skylights with views onto Craigvinean Forest

The front garden which includes seating for four, with a bench and two comfy chairs around a fire pit. There is also an outdoor tap and hose for washing muddy paws, making it a great space to relax after a day out exploring or to enjoy a morning coffee while listening to the birds. There is parking for one car with further parking available at the bottom of the private road just a 100-metre walk from the property.  The cottage is a four minute drive into Dunkeld where there is both on-street and public park parking.

This property is truly exceptional and perfectly situated. In our experience, holiday homes tend to fall into two categories: those purchased primarily for rental, and those that genuinely feel like a cherished home occasionally shared with guests. This property is definitely the latter. While the photos are impressive, the reality surpasses expectRead moreations. Everything is brand new, with high-quality decorative finishes throughout. The appliances are top-notch (including a fantastic coffee machine, Dualit toaster, and John Lewis white goods). Beds and furnishings are extremely comfortable, and the entire place is spotless. Communication with Scott was excellent; he was always helpful and responsive. I highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a memorable and comfortable stay. Hide
