The town is surrounded by mountains (Skiddaw and Blencathra) and is located between Derwentwater (1 miles) and Bassenthwaite (5 miles). Many local fells are accessible, enjoy a stroll down to the lake shores of Derwentwater to catch the launch across the lake and conquer the stunning Catbells, popular with walkers of all ages and abilities. For something more challenging, Skiddaw is a slightly longer, higher walk and, at over 3,000 feet, but on a clear day, you can see far and wide. Castlerigg Stone Circle is just over 1 mile away and dates back to the Neolithic era. Visit Theatre by the Lake, take in a show and visit Crow Park which is opposite – you can get a 360-degree view of the mountains along with stunning view down the lake towards the exceptionally beautiful Borrowdale valley.
