The village is home to traditional thatched cottages, quaint tea rooms, and the River Barle running through it. Take a scenic 4-mile walk from Withypool to Tarr Steps along the riverbanks, passing through mystical woodlands and open moors. One of the National Park’s most famous features is its resident ponies, and you can meet and learn about these rare animals at the Exmoor Pony Centre (3 miles). While hiking through surrounding nature reserves or among the rolling hills, keep an eye out for red deer or peregrine falcons. Explore the area’s beautiful coastline with a trip to Somerset’s Bossington Beach (12 miles) or the seaside town of Minehead (16 miles).
